Remco attack from the chase! Oh laawd haff mercy!
 
looking better and better for the Pog as attacks fly from the chase left and right while Pog is pumping out tempo

Great show by the Goat but imo he won because group 2 syndrome set in almost immediately. Gotta watch his attack from better screen when I get home to see where Remco and Mvdp were when he launched

I just rewatched it.

@104km to go Novak strings it out for Slovenia on the first steep section: pog third wheel and remco 30 riders back

@102km to go Novak keeps the pace high and it is completely strung out, remco still 30 back. This is a very hard situation to move up

@101.5 to go, Simmons and Pedersen put in attacks. At this point the pace had eased up and this would have been the time for remco to move up to Pogacar, he didn't and when the next rise was coming Roglic took over with hard tempo and Remco was still 2/3 the way down in the group. This is where his race was done.

@100.8 Pogacar does his version of hard tempo and leaves the bunch. A couple of riders hang on but they ain't going to last.

@99.5 to go Bagioli is the only one hanging on Pog's wheel. Chase is completely strung out still going uphill 13sec behind Pogacar. This is where the chase slowed down and 13sec became 21sec almost instantly.

@97km to go, Remco now 10riders from the front but following wheels and freewheeling. Pog with 31secs on the chase. It's over
 
@95km to go Belgium has 4 on the front riding hard and Remco 5th wheel. 5km too late.

Yep. Remco asleep when Pog launched and then Belgium asleep when it is time to pull and you sure aint pulling Pog back with domestiques doing anything less than max effort and it was reduced to just Van Gils and Remco pretty quick.

But you can always rage at team USA for not racing for you 5 seconds after you attack them lol
