Shoop $$$ PRIZES!!! Non Gif Shoop Contest v5 "BMF" Sign Up Thread!! - NGS

Dude i don't mind dropping out to let some of the proper shoopers in. The way I see it there is no point in the competition if someone like you bows out, you're the guy we all aim to beat, I'm sure even Arq knows you're the biggest threat in these competitions still, without you in there it's like Khabib fighting Al Iaquinta for a title!
You have to be in it, I'd rather bounce than see you or anyone proper drop out

From the heart bro

Dude, you are a proper shooper. I'm guessing you are the type of guy BWR is talking about when he says 'It's a shame that some of the OG shoopers can't make it into these contests.' because maybe they don't check in all the time and all the spots are gone.

I think the guys who have been in multiple contests in the past should get the spots ahead of guys with very little posts or who haven't been in a comp before. I know that seems kind of shitty but it is what it is.

Thanks man, I guess what we need to think on is how to accommodate all comers, even if there are 60 of them!
It's nice having a big field but it's way too much work for one (huge) Hawaiian to cope with, and unfair to expect @bigwaverider to do it.

I'd be happy to help out but I don't know how I could. I could make tea and supply snacks?

First I need to sign @Clippy for the commercial.. the part of the non fresh balls of course all rotten and moldy from his garage bad depositing habits (he put the bad candy back.. "for guests and whatnot" this guy.. I swear).

Wait so @Clippy has moldy balls from his shed, is all sad and bummed out, and then me and @Arqueto come along smiling and happy with fresh balls? Genious!!

This is a great idea we can use Clippy's fame to promote ourselves and get rich, we can turn all the evil stuff he does like not like Star Wars and not watch Cobra Kai and turn it into positive stuff like buying tickets for The Rise of Skywalker and packets of Scampi n Lemon Nik Naks for everyone.

I would be more than happy to help too but it's like BWR says people can't really help without knowing who's shoop is who's.

A 60 shoop contest would be chaos, look at the last ISL at one point we had a 1000 view difference between the threads in the first round. I think a 3 thread contest would put the guys in the third thread at a huge disadvantage as the average Sherbro just isn't going to spend the time evaluating 60 shoops to make his picks.

I mean maybe it could work somehow in NGS as they're just looking at still images but could you imagine asking people to look through almost 60 gifs in an ISL comp. I can't see it working, but it would be awesome if we could figure it out and by 'we' I mean the smart people and not me.

Even if we limit the actual contest to 40 entries, I think that there is a fair way to make that cut by having a small panel do a preliminary selection.

Let’s say we have 56 people sign up. All 56 submit an entry, and then 3 trusted judges choose the top 40 in a private conversation. These 40 are the ones which will make it to the actual voting threads.

I would be perfectly fine with having 3 of the OG shoopers make that call, and these 3 judges’ shoops should be automatically included in the top 40 since these guys will always produce top quality shoops.

The 16 that are not chosen can be featured in a honorable mention thread so that their work is also displayed.

What do you guys think?

@bigwaverider

For what it's worth, I ran a forum at one time using phpBB3.

Adding polling options was a matter of changing a number in the settings. If I'm not mistaken, the
Changes can be made for a specific individual or group.

Check it out with the boss.

I say give @bigwaverider more work, make him sweat!

That first round of the last ISL was a lot of gif's to look through, by the time the average 'dogger looks at the first 20 there is a good chance the next 20 aren't going to get the same level of attention.

I remember @ib313 's being quite long and I think a lot of people wouldn't have put in the time to watch it all, let alone 60 of them!

@bigwaverider having some reserved spots for people that have contributed before is a good idea to ensure some of the active higher quality shoopers get in. Perhaps the top X entrants from the previous contest get a closed, early-access invite a couple days before the open invite? That would create an incentive to enter contests and a reward for doing well. Then the open invite would ensure that new competitors would have the opportunity to enter as well, so we don't just get the same 40 shoopers every time.

If we keep getting much more than 40 people who want to enter you could always move to a lottery system as well so it's a little more "fair" than just who logs onto Sherdog at the right time. Even I almost missed it since I'm not usually active on weekends.

Also if you want to get some of the OGs into this contest I would have no problem giving up my spot, and taking @Clippy's, and kicking him out.

Read this all the way through.

Oh man. Slots are full brah. We are talking about how to redo the sign up procedure next time. Former contestants who ACTUALLY SUBMITTED images will be notified a head of time and can pre-sign up. It's a shame that some of the OG shoopers can't make it into these contests. We may have to institute other things into the sign up thread such as you have to be here on SD for a certain time period or something. This is all talk right now but I am getting upset that the ones who make this scene here on Sherdog, the ones in the trenches every day, in the shoop threads, and those that have actually showed up for contests, like you, are not gonna be able to sign up.

I can sign you up as an Alt though. You will be the 4th Alt. From my experience 6-8 people will no show this event, so you have a darned good shot at making it. I am thinking of bowing out myself to make room for the guys. I have been in enough Photoshop contests, so it won't be a big deal for me. I do want to up the count to 60 people, but it's already hard as heck for me to manage 40, plus 3 voting threads will be crazy!!

I am tagging all the contestants to see what their input is on this. Make sure to sign up as an Alt dude. Please.

I will definitely submit an entry but if you want to put me in the alts I understand and have no objection.

If the total that submit a shoop reaches 45 you could do 3 threads with 15 shoops each, times change!

I hate the idea of anyone missing out, if you stifle growth and target us newbies at the same time where is the fresh blood going to come from? remember you were all newbies once upon a time. I think being an alt participant until you've successfully taken part in a contest is a good rule though, that way you can see if they are serious without someone else losing a spot. Like an amateur bout on a professional card :)

If we are favouring OG's then they need to take some responsibility making sure the threads get bumped rather than letting 1 get out of hand because they can't stop spamming replies to a conversation they are having in there.

For a non-gif contest I don't see the issue with looking through all the shoops, and if people can't be bothered and just vote for those in one thread, so be it. I'm presuming you prepare the threads in separate tabs and post them both within seconds of each other anyway, would be the same deal with 3 threads.

@Arqueto I think you mentioned a disparity with total thread views but that is normal, people have short attention spans on forums, you can't even write 3 long paragraphs without people skipping over what you just wrote :( I bet that applies to the shoops too, the more complex (or long for gifs) the less people will pay attention to it, that's why catering to the masses is likely to win more votes than a stunning masterpiece with 100 points of interest.

Can you imagine if he beat Jones to do it too!

Shogun's fanbase would be back in force <45>

he fights again in a couple weeks, and if he wins he'll actually be 5-1 in his last 6. Now obviously it's a big step down in competition but it will still be his best streak since 2009 when he killed the corpse of Chuck Liddell.

I like your style!

But I also like that guys like you and Clippy are in here now, you bring good vibes and not just enter the competition and bounce. Frank McE too among others, it's good having all you fuckers around

Also like the lottery system idea, I'd be happy with that

If he keeps going he could find himself in a Bisping type situation, short notice title fight and BOOM, king of the hill again. Mike was only on a 3 fight win streak, Dolloway, Leites and Silva, two of which some fans felt he lost. Jones couldn't really turn down Shogun on short notice either because that's how Jones got the Shogun fight, though I expect he would try to duck that one.

if Shogun had beaten Anthony Smith there is a good chance they would have given him that title shot already, I don't want to think about the beating Jones would likely have given him, but you never know what can happen on any given night

Great idea on first notifying the people who participated and submitted in the previous contests.
Thank you

if they are able to code it in a way that only you could add 30+ options in a poll that'd be awesome.
This got me thinking... about your point that it might have to be across the board if big poles were allowed. Perhaps there's a way to make the option available for the couple hours it takes for @bigwaverider to open the thread with his big pole... & then Admin can take the ability back out of circulation once the pole is created & active.

Another thought here is given that Mod's have the ability to make larger PM's than the civilianz... it makes sense that they could give big poles to just the mods... & then they could just be sure & tell the others not to use their big poles without running it through an Admin first.

I've had a tendency to notice that line in the sand July 2015 (USADA startup) when you see a lot of the world beaters lose all their power & go from a W heavy record to an L heavy record. Hendrix & MJ come to mind, but there's a LOT of them.

Fun fact about Shogun... he started a dominating run at that time.
