Theres 3 HW eras in the sports entire 30ish year history across all promotions that were clearly better than today - Pride in the mid 00s, UFC in the early 10s, Strikeforce in the early 10s.

Again, its lack of hype and big names more than a lack of actual competition, mixed in with changing (rising) standards as the sport has matured, meaning we are harder to please.. Nobody was shitting on the division this hard when a WWE wrestler in his 4th MMA fight beat an undersized 45 year old for the title.
