My friend and I were discussing top 205 fighters of all time and had a disagreement about in a prime vs prime matchup whether Shogun or Wanderlei would win a fight against one another. Both are top-5 205 pound fighters unquestionably, but at their best, who would win the fight?

I'm voting Shogun
But maybe im a little biased since Jones beat Shogun, and saying Shogun is better would make Jones look even better

shoguns shooting as soon as wand loads up.

Shogun was more technical, Wand was more of a physical brute.

I'd favor Shogun.

Although apparently they fought behind the scenes at Chute Boxe over a puppy. Story is Wand got a new dog from that.
I remember hearing this story. I would love to see video of that.

Shogun. Wanderli won a good amount of his fights with his brutality and toughness. Prime shogun isn't gonna faulter from what wandy can do. I think he finishes him dan Hendon style.

Shogun by a mile. i think to eve debate this is laughable. Wandy was never a good fighter.

Could go either way.

I would lean towards Wand with his power and aggressiveness but of course prime Shogun had amazing kicks and knees.
I can get behind this. Wanderlei has become underrated here; like a prehistoric artifact who couldn’t compete today. Dude crushed young Rampage, never tapped, and gave Hunt a helluva fight. He ragdolled Dan Henderson the first time they fought, would have won a decision over K-1 Cro Cop if allowed, and went 5 years without a defeat. He was game; and we’ve all heard about the time Wanderlei KO’d Shogun for a dog.

i’d slightly lean Prime Shogun but it’s much closer to 50/50 in my book.

Depends on the year, 2000-2005 I'm picking Wanderlei. After 2005, Shogun. I think Wanderlei would have a mental edge over Shogun.

Shogun!

I think I am fairly qualified to answer this question. If were considering these guys at their best were looking at Wand 2005 vs Shogun 2010.

The answer would be Shogun by TKO. Shogun was a more dynamic fighter who can fight well in an aggressive brawl, but also fight a more composed technical fight. He played well on the counter or leading. Furthermore, Shogun was actually a fighter who was willing to take the fight the ground and engage in grappling. When he did was ultimately successful. Shogun also had the better chin IMO.

Shogun either catches Wand on the counter or he catches him in an exchange and when rocked finishes against the cage with a flurry.
