Prime Bas Rutten vs Prime Alistair Overeem

I might have to go with Bas on this one. Overeem has a small height advantage, couldn't find Bas's reach but I don't think it would be too great a difference. Overeem never really seemed to be that fast either, I remember Bas being surprisingly quick.
Not the best example due to low level opponent, but Rutten vs Villareal really showed off Rutten's speed and vicious striking. After a 7 year layoff it was insane. Also, his submissions in Pancrase were awesome, and the fights were longer. Overeem never went past 10 minutes. I can see Rutten slowly chipping away at Overeem then flooring him in the 3rd.

There is a myth about Bas that is bigger than the actual legend. He was very good for his time but his current persona causes people to inflate his skills.

I don't see how he survives one round with Ubereem.

Bas got up there after he retired, but IIRC, Bas claims to have had to drink a bunch of water to get above the 200 lb minimum for HW for at least one of his two HW fights. There may be guys fighting at WW who weigh as much in the cage as Bas did for some of the fights in his prime.

Was just making a point about size. It's not everything and Reem not being a big power wrestler it will mean less against a guy like Bas. Like i said before his speed and in ring IQ is too much for Reem.
