Reem was beating the shit out of Chuck. If he had cardio back in those days, I think he would've been an easy top 5 LHW.

In retrospect, this was a very high level win for Chuck. Knocked out an elite striker on the feet.

Yep when he gets rocked, he doesnt recover well, doesnt hide it well, and tries to fight on when he should back off
Except when he backs off too hard, like running away from Kharitonov and getting TKO'd. He always seemed to have a bit of mental weakness, he didn't look one bit like himself fighting Ngannou. He was visibly shaken fighting Arlovski in Holland, but he won. The guillotine on Stipe was another poor decision under pressure, but in fairness he does have a damn good guillotine. It's a shame he never won the big one, I truly believe he was the most skilled heavyweight for a long time, he was just cursed with a bad chin and a bit of a lack of heart. Good to see him hang them up with a shitload of money and all his marbles.

Also in fairness to him the guy has almost 100 professional fights.

It stands to reason hes gonna have bad days

He changed a lot once he got with wim hof

Once you learn how to control your breath, you can gain a lot more power over your mental state, can remain calm and in a flow state under pressure.

You can see he was fighting a lot more patient, all of a sudden his cardio was holding up. His fight IQ seemed to improve.

But it was too late in his career when his prime was long passed. If only they linked up years prior.

His chin and cardio have never been great. Overeem excels when he's the hammer and is in control of the fight. A strong round starter for sure. Id say overtime Overeem learned to make every shot count instead of throwing random punches and kicks.

Some say his defense has improved. If you want to call turning your back and running away or backing up in a straight line and covering up while they beat on you as an improved defense, be my guest lol.

It's just experience and nerves.

As my boxing trainer used to say, "Relax, it's only fighting."

Being wound-up, tight, or nervous robs energy in spades ... whereas being cool, relaxed, and calm allows any fighter to "roll with the punches" and not burn-up energy.

He's panicked after having PLENTY of experience.

Sure, but Wim hof changed him dramatically. He's even said it himself.

Elite breath control is a cheat code to many things in life.

Some people don't even know how to breathe properly and don't realize how much it's affecting their lives until they begin to change it.

Which sounds crazy, like how could someone not know how to breathe properly, but it's more common than you'd think, even in pro fighters.

Being able to control your breath means mastery over your mental states as well. Which is exactly what Alistair was missing most of his career.

The breathing advice is real, I used to stop breathing entirely when hyper focused and I wouldn't even notice. I'm not sure I agree with staying motionless in ice water for hours on end though, sounds like a good way to fall asleep and die.

Def should have some supervision for something like that but of course..
