Women giving childbirth in the US are now FIVE times more likely to end up with a hysterectomy and three times more likely to end up on life support than are women in Sweden or the UK, mostly due to preventable complications.

The US already has the highest rate of maternal mortality in the industrialized world... and we’re building that lead!

Another big win for the US healthcare corporation.

The article points to the fact that women are giving birth that are both older and more obese than in the past. People obviously need to take better care of themselves in this country.

In particular, I think a lot of pregnant women see pregnancy as their opportunity to "eat for two" and stop exercising (if they were in the first place). That is a terrible idea for your own health and the health of the baby. Women should not become obese during pregnancy, and they should not allow their bodies to become weak or unfit.

True.

But people are giving birth older and more obese EVERYWHERE.

The point is that this leads to complications, complications that women without quality access to healthcare die from at far higher rates.

Greatest country in the world™

As long as those mothers are poor people is all it matters.

Age and Obesity rates have already been discussed. However, is there also a correlation between the growing medical issues for mothers and the growing rate of twins/triplets/multiples being born?

"Between 1980 and 2009, the birth rate for twins rose by about 76 percent and has remained about the same since then. "

Are twins more common than they used to be?
Yes. The number of twins and triplets born in the UK has increased a lot in the past three decades. This increase is mainly because more couples are using fertility treatments to conceive.

Another factor is that women are having babies later in life. Older mums have a higher chance of conceiving twins.

The rate of twin births in the United States reached a record high in 2014, according to an annual report released Wednesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Health Statistics. There were 33.9 twins born for every 1,000 births in 2014.

If they have money they do.

Just to skip lines, not because the healthcare is better. And there are poor Murkans in the border states who end up costing Ontario money by using fake OHIP cards for years now.

Environment
diet
age

It'll only get worse.

While true, this, again, is the case everywhere.

Whenever I see a thread like this I have a rote assumption that it boils down to the American rate of obesity. It’s rarely not the case

Not at the same rate

Oh but I'm sure doctors will have a great new drug for us all to take that will fix that right up. Excuse the side effects.

Society tells women they should pursue college and career during what nature says are their most effective child bearing years.

Follow the p.c. liberal society you get the current results are.

Follow nature and you will have 3 kids before 21
