Quite weird story, really.

Say what you want about his talent but he always seemed like a hard worker, good professional, played through injuries etc etc.

Wonder if he’s another one the club has killed.

to me, he's a guy that hasn't been focused on football for years, more interested in growing a personal brand and self-promotion than being a great for Utd.

I suspect that's why Ten Hag said it was an 'internal matter', to put the media on his scent and chip away at the brand as punishment, rather than a giant suspension or a mere fine. This does more damage to his legacy and ability to generate money off the pitch than any fine or suspension.

not a bad person, quite the opposite, but doesn't seem to have his priorities in order.

Yeah, I can see that.

Can’t blame him really. 8 years at that shit show of a club could destroy anyone’s passion.

Looking like that massively inflated, 5 year contract is going to come back and bite us……again.

the modern footballer isn't incentivised to mature into a well-rounded and responsible person, something that participating in normal society forces a person to do to survive. Rather, they have a myopic focus - just football, branding and self-indulgence and consequentially maintain a child-like selfish mentality.

I can even see this dynamic in the developmentally-stunted players now in their 50s. The Rio Ferdinands of the world that blame the media and the fans for everything, shifting the responsbility from the player and excusing all their actions. How many times have we seen Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho infantalised

If you're getting 'fuck you money' in your early 20s, you're more likely to actually tell the world and your manager to fuck off. Not shocked by any of it.
