Match Report
I went to Whitby Town vs Warrington Town on Saturday. The attendance was 401. Warrington Town were relegated back to the Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division, after two seasons in the National League North. Last season they finished on 6-13-27, which although they were second from bottom, was the fewest wins in the league. They are now in the same league with who are presumably their arch-rivals, Warrington Rylands.

They sent some fans, with banners. Going into this match I and people I talked to or heard from were cautious in their expectations. And we started the game conservatively, prioritising possession and building steadily. However the manager Gary Liddle must have coached the lads before the match, during or both, as they soon switched to a more aggressive approach.
We were hitting some long balls and breaking up the pitch, which a lot of people dislike, however it was working for us and we were putting effective pressure on Warrington's back line and getting some quality shots from it. But we also constructed some incisive runs and crosses through midfield, some of which also created quality scoring opportunities. Once we turned up the heat Warrington immediately began to struggle, and although they did have one good shot which our goalie Shane Bland have to dive and save from near the top corner, and a few not-so-good ones, Whitby dominated the large majority of the match.

The new signings did well and this was one of the strongest performances I've seen at the Towbar Express Stadium for a while. Albeit Warrington aren't very good. Dynamic, aggressive and mobile football.

This is Liddleball.
Whitby are off to a flying start this season

, now second in the table with 2-1-0 and a GD of 5, having conceded only one goal. Warrington Town are 18th.
