All good bud. Thought I was in for a classic 1v1

Depends on the hosp. Some have a canteen that’s open for a hour or so at say 6am/lunch/6pm and then 9pm. Yep they serve brekkie. No hospital gyms at any I’ve worked in. They also have either on the same site/nearby hostels for peeps who are travelling in. And if I needed a room I probably would have to pay. Sometimes you can crash there if you’re covering a certain department overnight for free. But all I get overnight is unprotected breaks, a constant bleeper and stress.
Yeah I looked into this and apparently a lot of NHS staff were complaining about their canteens having short hours and high prices since they were privatised. Sometimes the staff's hours prevent them going, as the canteen isn't open when they're free, and sometimes it's so crowded they don't bother. :( This article is three years old.

We have a dedicated staff fitness centre on our Sunderland site which is open Monday to Friday 6am to midnight and Saturday and Sunday 6am -10pm. The gym has just recently been refurbished and includes a fully equipped gym with the latest cardio and weight training equipment, aerobics studio, sauna and steam room, shower and changing facilities and coffee lounge / relaxation area. We offer a very competitive membership package which includes use of the gym and all classes.

The Scarborough Hospital staff gym is available to staff and their family members. Open 5am to 11pm with last entry before 10pm everyday. It is fully kitted out with a wide range of equipment including:
  • Treadmills
  • A Cross Trainer
  • Weight lifting bench and a variety of weights
  • Exercise bike
  • Rowing Machine
  • Variety of resistance machines
There are also shower and changing facilities available.

Scaborough Hospital gym costs £5.95 per month by the way. I read that on one of the pages but can't be bothered to look it back up now. The gym/sauna sounds like a good place to pick up some hot international nurses. 🧐

Sorry you work in ghetto hospitals with no gyms. :( I thought if you just got all your meals at the staff canteen at least they would be healthy and not have too many calories but that doesn't sound like such a good option now. I suppose you have a staff little kitchen with a fridge and microwave. Apparently there are staff shops with discounted cinema and Flamingo Land tickets etc. too. As well as the Blue Light Card.

I was just thinking if they don't leave you enough time to go home and do all your stuff and sleep eight hours etc. before coming on duty again I would rather stay in a staff accommodation room than go home usually. But apparently you can't usually do that either.

I've had jobs when there were big gaps when you weren't working or being paid, but it didn't leave you enough time to go home and properly relax either and it's not a good deal. You have to have gaps like that when bus driving for instance, because of the hours limits and say if you need an hour break, you can't just go and get on a bus after 1:00:00, after your break you have to wait for a bus to come in whose route you know and which fits your remaining hours.

I’ll @ you with a proper rant about it all when I get round to it lol.

@650lb Sumo
like I genuinely feel the way we’re treated is disgusting lol. The nhs is a great employer for everyone who’s basically in admin/nurses/care assistants/corporate. I’ve been in it for nearly a decade now. We don’t typically have fixed term long term contracts, we work donkey hours often with unprotected breaks. The amount of people who go off long term sick in the nhs is a joke 😂 yet we’re expected to keep the shit afloat. If I call in sick they’re fucked and have to get seniors to step down/draft in emergency cover. Anyone else can just rinse and repeat it. Yet they do fuck all to make sure we don’t burn out. And the government is trying to replace us with quack associates and flooding the country with foreign trained ones to saturate the job market lol. It’s all a ducking joke.

I genuinely enjoy what I’m doing but the rota makes me smash my head against the wall. My pay is dramatically reduced if I don’t do the out of hours, like down by 50% lol. Even then it all goes on tax/student loan. I’m only doing it for a while before I reevaluate/quit/have a long break.

portnoy getting cooked. Original comments on his post 🤣 . This viral shit is just helping everyone to wake up to it all
