Match Report
I went to Whitby vs Worksop this afternoon. The attendance was 605. This is quite a big crowd for us and the stadium was lively with lots of banners and chants. We have made several new high-profile new signings lately and strengthened up the team in all areas except goalie. Which I feel has already made a difference, although it takes time for everything to gel live.
Firstly I thought we held up well to one of the strongest teams in the league. Worksop had most of the ball and were pushing up. They generated quite a few shots, but our defence was at least keeping them to more low-percentage shots. Shane Bland our goalie did good work as usual. A lesser goalie would have been defeated more often. We did have the odd shot but Worksop probably had 4 or 5:1.
There was a big penalty shout in the first few minutes which could have been given, actually everyone was cheering because they thought it had been given but it wasn't. Their goalie took our player's legs out sliding but the ref thought it was ok. It would have been a different game...
We held them off for 57 minutes, which was a lot better than I expected. The midfielders played deep and took some weight off the back line, it worked well. Not leaving any major gaps. Still a team of Worksop's calibre was always likely to score and they did so at 57 minutes. Our lads responded positively however. They wanted at least a point from this game. Actually our last manager Nathan Haslam was in the ground, as a visitor I think.
We equalised at 83 minutes after one of the best build-up chains I've seen Whitby do. It was text book, every run and pass accurate and penetrating and the shot was good so 1 - 1. Worksop switched up a gear though, swarmed up and overran our defence and scored at 93 and 94 minutes.
After a good impression after almost all of the game, the wheels came off under pressure in the last few minutes.

Going in I fully expected us to lose this game, but
Whitby sink to 18th place with ten games left. This was also the first game this year without floodlights.

Worksop are now second - 23 points behind Macclesfield lol. We go again in a week's time.
