I got lucky with my birthday Scotch due to a mistake at the Tobermory Distillery. Basically they prepared a Ledaig 18, marrying 18 year old Bourbon casks with 18 year old Sherry casks in the Vatting Tank, then they confused a cask which consisted of only 3 year old Grain whisky, which ruined the entire stuff in the tank for Tobermory even though only a few litres got in. They sold it to an independant bottler named "Living Souls", who then sold the stuff as Ninety-Nine & One Blended Scotch for pretty much half the price compared to the real Ledaig 18.
It's one of the few Whiskys that you smell and drink and you get the exact notes that are marketed for it, the same notes that always made me a little gun shy buying the original Ledaig 18 for 130€ or even more. The nose has a little more Sherry and sweetness than when you drink it, but essentially it's a really spicy, not a gentle Whisky with peppery notes, tobacco, orange notes but super dry/spicy, chili flakes etc., you can also definitely feel the depth of 18 years maturation. It's a good Whisky for sure, but people should in no way expect sweet Sherry notes with peat, that is absolutely not what this is, if you want that then go get a modern style, dark Caol Ila with a heavy Sherry maturation from an independant bottler.
It is great value for 72€, but the original Ledaig 18 price tag is really, really steep unless you just love the spicy, peppery, non-sweet style of Whisky.
