Powerlifter dies after dropping bar on chest during bench

I'm actually glad this was posted and hope everyone gets a chance to watch it.

This fear sits in the back of my mind every time I get under the bar. It's the fear that makes me grab the every loving shit outta the bar. It's a healthy fear; one that will make you focus on your grip through out the lift.

It seems like this guy was more focused on getting the bar up and lost focus on his grip. I know the object of a bench press is to get the weight up, but it should be secondary to holding on to the bar.

This was an avoidable tragedy. Not to rag on the spotters, but your hands should be under the bar the whole time it is out of the rack. Though I'm sure they know this now and have had enough grief over tha matter..

Secondly- Lifters, please wear wrist wraps when lifting heavy. This was not a grip issue, it was a wrist weakness issue. Train without wraps at lower weights to improve wrist strength. Otherwise, ALWAYS wear them on heavy days!

I agree. I say do what you wanna do. But if you drop 50lb less in the warm up room it might be something to pay attantion to.

Also, feel free to crack a good joke I'm a fan.
