I can't say if it's retaliation. But I can say that spending millions doesn't make sense. I've already said that it's the small spending idea that got us here where peeps in the govt just say yeah it's only 8M and this is just for one. Let's say it's 40M total, it's not a lot compared to the budget but if everyone thinks this way the spending will just keep going up. Not down. In this case they are attacking Politico and legacy media because they have been either impartial or unkind to Elon or Trump's cause. I am curious which service they will replace Politico with. You want teams that work on public policy to have accurate information.
You can check what this administration is trying to do to legacy news outlets. Tiktok/Twitter influencers and Breitbart are not quality news media. Our administration is pushing for these type of shit news outlets. It's not a left or right thing. Respectable conservative news outlets aren't playing ball either. Elon is calling for the firing of the Wall Street Journal reporter who exposed one of his workers for racist tweets.
Whatever your perspective on this.. there is no reason that in recent years, millions in tax money needs to be spent on private news media. Doesn't matter who it is...
It doesn't matter really fake or legit... they seem to have done fine up until a few years ago and the spending skyrocketed for whatever reason. It's time to just nix non-essential spending and to me this is one. And yeah, media bias is a reason not to rely on them to make your decisions.
And legacy media is? I don't know of a "quality" news outlet that hasn't burned their credibility to the ground over the past ten years. That tabloid news show "Hard Copy" from the 90's, has more credibility than these jokers.

I think you aren’t well informed on this topic. There is politico pro and there is politico. I don’t want to keep explaining it to people in this thread. Please just go look it up and understand why policy makers need this service. They at least have to replace it with something else. They still have to spend money.

All of these cuts will be used to try to fund their forthcoming tax cuts for the rich.
