Poirier down for the Gaethje rematch

He's ranked #8. How is that "nowhere close" ?

He's nowhere close because Poirier is #2 and coming off a top 5 win. Arman just dropped a fight to Gamrot and beat a guy outside the top 10. And that's just ranking were talking about. Let's not forget about the name value. Poirier is a big name now, he's a well known and the UFC will match him with opponents that have the same value. Arman is a very good fighter, but no one knows who he is yet, he hasn't been built up.

Of course he is. Him and Chandler are desperately avoiding any up and coming challengers.

At least Gaethje has the balls to give guys lower in the rankings a chance. Poirier should be fighting Gamrot or Tsarukyan (I would say Dariush but he's got a fighting coming up against Oliveira). He knows even if he loses to Gaethje, he'll still maintain a high rank. But if he loses to Gamrot or Tsarukyan, he will fall a lot.

The only guy who deserves a fight with Poirier right now is Dariush, and it worked out better for him cause he got a higher ranked opponent in Olivera.

They are not desperately avoiding new challengers. It's that they and the UFC don't see the value of matching them up with those guys. Those fight just don't make sense right now. Gamrot or Arman are not close to fight with Poirier. None of them have the win streak, ranking or name value to get that fight. And lets be honest, there really is not much in it for Poirier. It's not about giving a chance, it's not gym class here where everyone gets a turn.

Fiziev got Gaethje because that fight made sense. Fiziev had a good 6 fight win streak, a marque win and finish over an established top fighter in Dos Anjos and had a #6 ranking. Gamrot and Arman don't have any of that. Not to mention that Gaetchje was coming off a loss while Poirier is coming off a win over #5. Only fights make sense for Poirier are top 3 opponents.

Their first fight was a fucking banger. Was just thinking of this the other day. Been awhile now since the first fight too. This would be great matchmaking.

Bw is one of the better managed divisions, top fighters actually fight eachother. the worst managed is WW by a wide margine IMO, followed by FW




gamrot is coming off a win. he could also fight islam vs charles loser.

He already got clearly beaten by Dariush so that fight doesn't really make much sense. Olivera is a fight that could work. If Olivera loses to Dariush then he drops back to #3 or #4 and he would have 2 losses in a row. I like that fight!! And it's not a huge risk for Olivera because Gamrot is a grappler and doesn't offer much of a threat standing.
