The synthesizers, the haircuts. the clothes etc are unintentional comedy.
The cinematography is terrible at times as is a lot of the acting.

Great fucking flick, but it's total cheese compared to something like Good Fellas or the Godfather.

The 80s atmosphere and cinematography is a capture of the times and is mostly flawless. It has a visual and mood edge that Ronin doesn't.

Ronin is a good movie, dont get me wrong. But it doesn't stand out in any particular way other than being a fun movie.

And he brings up haircuts, the forgotten quintessential element in film making.

Yeah same scores though I have scarface maybe a 9.5.

To be honest, I've read and heard about every negative thing people have had to say about scarface. From when it was cool to like it to when it wasnt cool to like it. But throughout I've seen it a bunch of times and I've never been convinced it's anything but a great movie.

I think it has one of the best and most re watchable endings. Underrated film score too. You can make an argument it's the best cult classic film of all time.

It's a superior movie for the same reasons Roadhouse is a superior movie to point break, but in the realm of movie production, it's not as well done. The filming isn't as good. The effects aren't as good. The supporting actors aren't as good. At times, it makes you laugh despite it not being a comedy because it's so ridiculous.

I would say its obviously very stylised but really I think thats a lot of the appeal, Ronin just isnt a very similar film at all being more of a lower key thriller attempting a decent degree of realism.

De Palma's best stuff was in the early 80's for me, Dress to Kill, Blow Out, Scarface and Body Double when he had more unique style to his work.

Point break is the better film than roadhouse but roadhouse is my favorite of the 2

The Shootist is a better film than Day of Anger but Day of anger is my favorite of the 2


This doesn't apply to Scarface/Ronin because Scarface is superior in every way

I think its filmed well. Like I said the acting, cinematography, writing is all top notch.

I dont get the argument anyway. Road house and Scarface are better movies because.....they are worse movies but more iconic?
