I agree with Speed being mediocre, but not Point Break.

Point Break would have been better if they cast a hotter female lead with nicer bigger naked boobs and beaver.

Movies have gone downhill in the last 15 years, even more in the last 5.

Off the top of my head

Once upon a time in Hollywood
Django unchained
Silver linings playbook
Edge of tomorrow
The conjuring
Avengers infinity war
Macgruber

I would have to really look to give you an accurate list.

I just finished Dredd and that movie was awesome. @revoltub

Glad you watched it. Great movie. Have you seen upgrade?

I havent seen the conjuring.

point break is an all time great film.

speed is a classic too.

I havent seen the conjuring.

I loved watching Dredd and I would gladly watch it again. The only issue I have with it is this....

Cersei falling to her death. I didn't like the slow mo shot of her falling, it was really cheesy and dumb. Wish she fell fast and messy which was the theme of death in the film.

Yeah I've seen upgrade at least 3 times.

yeh Dredd was awesome. Definitely with you on infinity war, the edge of tomorrow, both tarantinos, I LOVED prisoners, the new blade runner, chappie, drive, wind river, really liked this movie archive I stumbled on with Theo James. Last house on the left was maybe 2008 or 2009 but liked that a lot too.

You guys already mentioned upgrade that was great too

Prisoners and drive were really good too. Nightcrawler as well. Haven't finished blade runner and never seen wind river.

Consider this with regard to Speed-

you have three major sequences- all of which are connected but all of which are really different-

the opening, tense sequence that introduces Traven and Harry as they try to deal with the explosive-rigged elevator.

The most substantial portion of the film with the bus, which has many exciting moments.

The subway chase scene where Keanu has to save Sandra and stop Hopper for good.

In my opinion, all three of those sequences are, at the very least, good. I personally find the sum of the parts awesome. A lot of action films these days seem to lack the visceral entertainment that Speed provides.

There is memorable dialogue, entertaining action setpieces, a great villain in Payne, and a good ending.

Hopper is really effective as the villain. What you want in those types of action films is a villain who seems like a substantial threat. The fact that he is one step ahead of Harry and Jack for most of the movie and that he is still causing problems even after his master plan was thwarted, is relevant to the quality of the film.

And hell, people can say what they want about Keanu’s acting but I thought he was good. The dynamic between him and Daniels- legit sold that friendship. So when Harry gets got, you feel that Keanu meltdown.

Sandy is great in it. Star-making performance right there.

oh and Point Break is legit. Nuff said.

Prisoners and drive were really good too. Nightcrawler as well. Haven't finished blade runner and never seen wind river.

Prisoners was ultra intense. Felt like Jackman was on the verge of giving someone the Anderson Silva front kick of destruction at any moment- even before his daughter’s disappearance.

Great performances from him and Gyllenhaal. Hell, from everyone. Bello, Davis, and Howard were so authentic. Leo was creepy as hell. Dano, what can you say.
Even those young actors that played Jacknan’s son and Terence’s daughter were great in their small roles. Never for a moment seemed like actors in roles. Outright authenticity.

That’s a gritty, gritty film.

Speed is actually the first Fast and Furious movie iirc

I watched Speed recently and it holds up. Dennis Hopper is an iconic villain.

Definitely an iconic villain. There were some great ones from that era.

I always enjoy the exchanges between Daniels, Hopper, and Keanu in the elevator sequence.

there will come a time, boy, when you’ll wish you never met me.

Mister, I’m already there.

haha.
