Poatan accepted the immediate rematch

My favourite scenario here (which requires a little heartbreak sadly)

- Izzy sits out. Well deserved break
- Jiri beats Old Man Glover in brutal fashion in the rematch. (Breaking my heart in the process. I fucking love Old Man Glover)
- Poatan challenges the man who beat his training partner.
- UFC makes Alex vs Jiri for the 205 belt.
- gentlemen's agreement to stand and bang
- Regardless of what happens, we get to see Frankenstein's Brazillian monster again AND we get Alex vs Izzy 4, say may/June next year

Also imagine if he knocked Jiri out and became Champ Champ with 5 fucking MMA fights

My body is ready.

OK, buddy! Sorry, but F*CK YOU!!!
for so blatantly making me agree with ALL your points and making me look at my own (old) point of view and say (in an inquisitive tone): "How didn't I think of ANY of this??? How could I be so fucking blind???"

Now I am excited for your dream!!!

Not for nothing but I can see Alex moving to 205 and taking jiri out. I don't think anyone else will beat jiri there. And it's not a very wrestler heavy division

Ahhhh I can’t fucking wait. The egotistical obnoxious stick insect will have a mental breakdown after Alex finishes him earlier this time.

Alex will be that much more ready and that much more confident the next time too :)

Adesanya is done.

Alex fought shit too, I thought.

Dude did fuck all except head hunt with the left. Never set it up or any of his kicks.

When he started throwing the jab it landed hard nearly every time, and you could see it was rattling Izzy. It blow my mind that Alex didn't think to throw that stiff jab or early and that he stopped doing it even when it was clearly working. Like, why the fuck wasn't he using that jab to set up other combos and the big left?

Just a weird approach. He made things so much harder on himself for no good reason lol.

apologies accepted and o you are most welcome m8.

I'm ok with it. The likes of Whittaker, Vettori and Khamzat most likely beat him via grappling. Let him have at least one title defense.

On another note, Izzy might literally be on suicide watch if he goes 0-4 against the same guy.

As a Khamzat fan, I think Alex is a harder fight for him than Izzy. His striking defense is suspect, and there is a real chance that if he goes ham on trying to get the takedown he eats big shots on the way in. With Alex, it only takes one.

Well, I do not disagree with you.
But I think that there has to be one rule for all. Not one for those whom the UFC likes and other for the rest (and possibly one more for those they dislike).
Besides, how exactly do you define what is a "long reign"? 5 title defenses? More? Less?

Take for example when Aldo lost his belt (on his 8th UFC title defense, not counting the 2 in WEC). He did not get an immediate rematch.
So IMO anything below that should not get a title shot as well. And Usman (on his 6th) and Adesania (also on his 6th) then do not get the cut...

Making, of course, the obvious exceptions for any controversy.
The UFC is never going to make a hard rule... and this will remain something for us to debate.
I think things should be taken on a case-by-case basis. In the 4 cases presented... I'd give an immediate rematch to all 3 except Zhang Weili - ie Usman, Adesanya, and Aldo. The UFC didn't do this... got 2 right IMO but gave Zhang one incorrectly and didn't give Aldo one.
The UFC is going to do what it does - and I'm going to argue what I think is right or wrong. No point in making a rule when the UFC won't abide by it anyways. I think case-by-case is fine.

Poatan doesn't seem like the kind who would turn down any fight really.

A rematch is justifiable but ive just got rematch fatigue at this point. Then again, if you dont do the rematch who else gets a title shot without it seeming kinda dumb?

I like Alex but his fast tracking to a title shot vs a stylistically favourable opponent has kind of tarded up the division for now. They could give Bo Nickal the next shot and it wouldnt be much weirder than things already are.

Element of surprise. I am pretty sure Izzy was not expecting a TD from Alex. While he was expecting it from Whittaker. This is definitely a factor
Oh that’s right Alex said he was gonna make adesanya fight and that he did.

"It was agreat fight. I think that anyone who paid to watch got their money's worth. He des deserve (the rematch). For me, there's no problem. This is not under my control if he will fight or won't.
To me, it makes no difference. He just has to come." declared the new UFC champion.

hehehehe.
I think this is inevitable.
Not because I think Israel deserves the immediate rematch, he does not.
But it is fairly obvious that if the UFC makes him fight anyone else, Alex will lose his belt to the next contender; and that will mean this "grudge match" will probably not happen again (or will happen like Masvidal & Colby, where both guys were quite diminished, so the fight had more desperation than spark)...

Thoughts?
Izzy should win skill wise, but he’s probably way too mentally cucked at this point

Of course he did. I like Alex and Israel. And Adesanya deserves it, but he's likely one of the easiest matchups for him to get a title defense in the top 5. Especially since he beat him thrice.

I got Israel in the rematch.

I didn’t know sherdog had so many psychologists registered

It's the new MBA lol

As a fan we're always bitching about " STAND UP WARS "
Let em' rematch hell yea let em' bang bro

Alex is only getting better so this won't go well for Izzy.

Well, I do think that us fans are the ones who should push the UFC to act like MMA is a proper sport, not a bush-league type of unfair sport where only the ones they like get benefits.
All other sports follows that principle. So that's my preference.

But I do understand your point, and respect it. I can see your logic... it's just not how I think should be.

Why not? He's beat the man three times. I bet Edgar could still take a ... fifth(?) fight with BJ and win. I bet Jones could beat DC right now, rolling off the couch. Some guys just have the other's number.

I think he CAN win... but his problem is that while he can (most likely) win only on points (after 5 rounds not getting caught), Alex just need to land one big punch (as he did in their previous 2 fights).

It's like Izzy himself explained: "he was walking through my punches, but I was hitting him!".
