Poatan accepted the immediate rematch

Not at all fond of instant (or continuous) rematches honestly. This is one with validity however so I'm good with it if it happens. Just hope it doesn't become a string of rematches...

If Izzy decided to step away for a short I'd be fine with that as well. Let the Division unwind a bit.

For sure. Of all the top middleweight contenders, Pereira would choose Adesanya if it was his choice. He knows what to expect, and he's comfortable fighting that fight.

Against Vettori or Whittaker, he'd definitely get taken down.
Yeah I don't like his chances against the good wrestle boxers

Izzy fans on copium overdose.

"Izzy was dominating the fight!"
"What a bad stoppage. Izzy was robbed!!"
"Pereira didn't even deserve a title shot!!!"

Don’t have to be an Izzy fan to see at least two of those things are true. Fair play to Pereira for riding the storm and somehow finding a way to win at the end of the very last round. What a way to end one of the best cards in recent memory.

Why wouldn't he want it? He knows he can beat him, and it's likely a better money maker than any other MW fight for him.
Even though he has his moments losing 4 times to someone has to get to you

What the hell does Izzy do if he goes 0-4? And who the hell does Alex face otherwise? Can he defend his belt? So many questions

That was extremely quick for him to take an immediate rematch from the get go.

Always a risk that Poatan might lose the title without defending it even once but if he does, that's straight up champion mentality right there.

Meh.
Fighter's get caught. It happens.
It does not show who is the better fighter.

Two good fighters SHOULD have close fights. And may the best win.
It doesn't matter who "was winning". It matters "who won"!
And Alex did that decisively.

Adesanya goes for points. That has always been his M.O.
Alex goes for the finish. And he got it.
The "I was winning" should not matter at all.

Look I don't like izzy and I wanted alex to knock him out but he was on his way to an L until the KO so yes izzy deserves another crack

rob had nothing for izzy in their first fight and quite frankly fought like a retard throwing wild long looping and embarrassing punches and I say that even tho I like rob a lot more than izzy and rooted for him in both their fights
you don't get an immediate rematch performing like that unless you provide access to the massive chinese market

you might not like it but the "I was winning" immediate rematches are a lot more fair then those based on reputation or market access

"It was agreat fight. I think that anyone who paid to watch got their money's worth. He des deserve (the rematch). For me, there's no problem. This is not under my control if he will fight or won't.
To me, it makes no difference. He just has to come." declared the new UFC champion.

hehehehe.
I think this is inevitable.
Not because I think Israel deserves the immediate rematch, he does not.
But it is fairly obvious that if the UFC makes him fight anyone else, Alex will lose his belt to the next contender; and that will mean this "grudge match" will probably not happen again (or will happen like Masvidal & Colby, where both guys were quite diminished, so the fight had more desperation than spark)...

Thoughts?

Only if they will fight in Brazil in January

Lol at vitorri is the savior now? Cope harder.
Whittaker isn't a takedown artist nor a sub artist, he has great TDD and uses wrestling defensively. He struggles with lengthy strikers and has a sus chin. Don't be so sure he wants a shot Alex.

Everyone wants to wrestle Alex, until they catch that knee in that meathead dome of theirs

A rematch is the best case scenario for Alex. He gets a a title defense against a guy he beat 3 times and doesn't have to deal with the grapplers in the division. Although I think Whittaker would be an extremely easy fight for Alex because his chin will not hold up. Vettori is tougher because of his iron chin, but he has never faced a killer like Alex before.

What is Izzy even going to say to him at the press conference. ‘I’m 0-3 but I almost had you, but lost again. BOTCHED’

He doesn't necessarily beat izzys opponents, but he has izzys number. Styles make fights and Alex can only improve in a few months, much more than Izzy

Alex isn't a spring chicken, but if they fight again next? Alex fucks him up AGAIN

It makes sense to Pereira, because Adesnanya is the best match up for him. The other contenders would be much bigger grappling threats.
It makes sense to Adesanya, because a title shot is better than a fight without a belt on the line.
It makes sense to the UFC because there's no guarantee a UFC rematch will happen otherwise.

But yeah, we need to move beyond immediate rematches for champs. It's been awful, and a chief contributor to the mess at the top of many divisions. You shouldn't have to beat the champ twice running.

0-4 and Izzy is put on Oxygen once again.

Ahhhh I can’t fucking wait. The egotistical obnoxious stick insect will have a mental breakdown after Alex finishes him earlier this time.

Alex will be that much more ready and that much more confident the next time too :)

Adesanya is done.

I'm curious how many buys this card did. It would seem like the rematch is the most lucrative fight available for all 3 parties in this, it's just whether Israel actually wants it which he probably does. Dana was talking about a Brazil card in 2023, make it happen.

whats he going to do?

clean out the division like holloway?
move to bellator ?
move up to 205, get the stap, then alex comes up and takes it again ?
