Pliny Petes Luchastravaganza Thread

This guy isn't that bad, whoever is playing Matanza.

Man Evans was destroyed on multiple occasions. I know these guys are trained to rake bumps, but a powerbomb on wood, and those other bumps is really gonna take a toll on his body

This is how I would book the finish.....

We get down to our final 2 or three, everyone has entered. Then we have whoever you want to feud with Matanza win Aztec warfare. I want to go with Prince Puma. Prince Puma wins, a few faces and strong characters are left in the ring to acknowledge the new champ and congratulate him. Create a celebratory mood. At the end have matanza come out and squash everyone, then you can put the belt on him or not.

I didn't like how he was basicallya lucha wyatt. Crappy gear but Matanza is a freak athlete. I saw him without the mask and he has the look.

Just an idea.

Guess the only problem with Matanza is he didn't look that tall, but its fine for LU. I liked hte gutwrench trio suplex

I loved yesterdays show
It was definitely the best episode of season 2 and one of the best episodes ever imo
Joey Ryan and Famous B were hilarious as usual
This show reminded me of how many great and DIFFERENT characters there are in this group
Id like to see them get some people from Chikara for season 3
The Ants would get over in Lucha I think
At first when Catrina slapped Vampiro right as the buzzer for the 21st entrant went off I thought he might rage out and jump in the ring like she had awakened the monster in him again
I figured they were gonna put the belt on Rey but the introduction of Matanza after a season and a half of teasing him was even better
Now thats what I call a slow burn storyline build up
All in all great episode 7 thumbs up

That was awesome.
cant believe i actually marked out for Rey Mysterio.
was hopeing for Dragon Azteca and Matanza to be the last two but the the ending was still good
and even though Matanza isn't that big, he is still intimidating and he can wrestle, unlike WWE giants that can just do close-lines so its a good trade off.

lastly i loved that all of them had a story line and a nemesis to go up against, so none seemed like jobbers but they all belonged.
well except for Argenis, he did seem a bit jobberish and a bit out of place in compared with the rest.

Dear WWE: that's how you book a heel monster. I love Matanza's gear too. Very Jason Vorhees esque, which is the aura you want for a face killing jobber squashing monster heel.
Too bad for Fenix that he became a transitional champ but his story arc was still great though. I'd have him reigned for at least one or two weeks before getting battered by Matanza. Now it is time to look forward to Pentagon Jr vs Muertes. If there's no blood in that fued then i will stop watching ASAP.

Lucha Underground knows how to do power dudes right. I was kinda shocked they made Matanza actually a technical beast and not just, yeah, clothesline / shoulder block / generic finisher.

But I did think they booked him a bit too strong. He still could have wrecked without basically elevating to a new power level a full league above everyone else.

Holy shit he's amateur wrestled Yoel Romero !

Matanza vs Gay Cheezus in Grave Consequences for Lucha Underground championship imo

Think of him like a final boss of a fighting game. Last season was Muertes, this season is Matanza. They smartly lowered Muertes' power level without him looking like a chump, while also side step the whole Muertes vs Matanza for the time being by having him set up a fued with Pentagon Jr instead. I do think that's good for them to establish his presence like that. It is probably a given that he will hold the belt for the rest of the season until Ultima Lucha 2.

No, I totally get that - and the whole vibe of Lucha Underground is the only real way I think it works to have a "final boss" type character that's clearly ahead of everyone else ... I just don't think they should be literally in another league of power level.

Like if he had come in and maybe eliminated half as many dudes, and maybe if it was a bit more clear they were already somewhat wounded from the match ... I mean, still have him pin multiple of their top guys clean in the same match, but don't make it look like it will be absolutely mandatory to have multiple people working against him simultaneously to beat him.

With Mil, they never booked him to imply it would be literally impossible - and not just a small miracle - for one person to beat him. With Matanza they are almost certainly going to have to introduce storyline reasons for any power reduction. Which I'm kinda okay with as LU really does walk the line between what it is on the bottom line - as in, whether it's a drama product or a wrestling product. But that really touches on its fundamental struggle - whether to defer to the wrestling or to the story. They don't have to be mutually exclusive but there will be times they clash.

Matanza unmasked:

what a monster..

and he reminds me of the dude from Splatterhouse.

I marked the fuck out for the Dario comeback. He's the greatest thing in wrestling today. I love the idea of him controlling the temple again and having his brother just murdering fools that try to fuck with his house.

The storylines in Aztec Warfare were great.. some legitimate surprises and they did a great job of making Rey Rey a big deal, which he is.. but his time in WWE recently made me forget.

Can't wait for the Mil vs Pentagon feud.

...and Jack Evans doesn't give a fuck.
