Jesus Christ people, the engines move the plane relative to the speed of the immediately surrounding atmosphere, not the ground. It's like being on a giant treadmill, tethered to a car driving on still ground. When the car takes off your fucked no matter how fast the mill goes.

You mean airplanes are different from cars with wings?

If you had vectoring thrust like the F-22 or VTO like the harrier. but if we're talking Beachcraft A-36. I don't see how it could clear the runway without airflow.

Bacon. I think you need to try this out a work and get a video for the Church.

yes it will be able to take off.

Unlike a car, which has a drive shaft, a plane's wheels are independent of it's body. It is in fact the propeller which causes forward motion, not the wheels.

They did this on Mythbusters

I don't think anyone was anticipating the free moving wheels which lets it fly...

Thank God, I thought I was being absolutely retarded because I couldn't grasp why people didn't think it would take off.

So are we waiting 20 minutes for BW to come back and explain how MythBusters got it wrong?

I'm waiting for anyone to tell me how this is an S&P topic, so in the mean time, how can I use this information to help my push press?

And amazingly, if the treadmill is large enough, the wind it creates and noted above will make the plane take off faster. Asssuming the tire's don't blow out, because they will moving at a factor of 2 to the planes speed.

BlondeWarrior reminds me of the time my sister asked where the brake pedal was on the boat we were in.

Except that my sister majored in psychology and doesn't teach high school physics.

Check the C++ thread. It's in there somewhere. You'll need Java.

take said plane and press it over your head

LOL

I just talked to some of the guys in our aero department and they didn't even let me finish the question. They just started poking holes in the scenario. Fucking engineers.

Urban, what say you? Would trying to push press whilst going down an escalator help my numbers go up?

Chase T reminds me of an arrogent douche bag.

*wonders if he spelled douche correctly*
