Just moved to the city for a new job and haven't been able to do a lot of research yet on where to train. Checked out a few places, but I wondered if anyone had any suggestions whose been training for a while. I've got a couple ammy fights and just want to keep busy and get better. Work on wrestling would help, last time out had some trouble. Any ideas?

Daddis Fight Camp is a good place to start. The main gym is in Philly and they have 2 sister schools in NJ, one in Cherry Hill just over the river. They have connections with Bellator. The instructors include Waylon Lowe, an ex-UFC fighter who I guess is their wrestling coach, and Popo Bezzera. Those two are the most accomplished MMA fighters, but they always have someone fighting somewhere pretty much every month. Matt Makowski was promising, but I don't know if he fights anymore. Balance is better if you just want to BJJ. Eddie Alvarez and Zach Makovsky are from Phila. Fight Factory. Aside from having those two guys, I don't know much about the school

Balance is in Philly if I'm not mistaken. That seems to be a pretty good place to do bjj

Hi Marcowhayes,

Balance studios is right in Center city, if you get the chance, give the office a call (215 636 9661) and my brother or I can set up a time for you to come by and check out our classes. I won't be in until Monday, but Drew (my brother) is there 10-2 tomorrow and he will set you up with some classes.

Thanks!

Josh Vogel

Thanks, Josh. I was in there a little while ago. Loved the jiu jitsu, but $180+ was a little out of my price range, and I was looking for a little more in terms of other MMA aspects, especially for that price. Gym has a good vibe, though.

I checked out Daddis also, but both that spot and Balance are priced a lot higher than what I'm used to paying, especially with what you get for the price. Does anyone know what they charge at Maxercise?

No problemo, glad you enjoyed the Jiujitsu and the vibe! You are always welcome by if you change your mind.

Feel free to stop by Brazen Boxing & MMA. We have the best prices for unlimited MMA as low as $100 a month. We also boast a strong pro and amateur fight team:

- Pro Boxer/Junior Middleweight, Gabriel Rosado, is ranked 5th in the world by the IBF.

- Pro MMA Fighter, Paul Felder, recently dominated Fight Factory's Judah Ciervo en route to a 2nd round TKO and holds a vicious KO victory over Bellator Try Out winner, Mtume Goodrum.

- Pro MMA fighter, Tom Backman, recently won by 2nd round submission via armbar against Daddis Coach, Mike Pandolfini.

Thanks, Sargus. That was a great video, and the place definitely looks legit. Your wrestling coaches on your website look fantastic, and I was really hoping to work on that. I apreciate all the prices right on your site, too - none of the other places I was trying to look at have that. So, is there a good time when I could come by and check the gym out in person?

No Problem. Stop in at any time during our hours of operation (also the best in Philadelpia. Philly has some good options, but we have a top notch facility with very skilled fighters and coaches. You can check out our Youtube Channel BrazenBoxingMMA - YouTube if you have any questions. Best of luck!

BJJ United is almost certainly the highest level training in that area for straight up sports jiujitsu. Jared Weiner and Wilson Reis as instructors and have all the beasts from the Lloyd Irvin affiliation stopping by. As someone who has trained and been loosely affiliated with the team I'm somewhat biased, but can definitely assure you of the quality training there, especially if you take the sport particularly seriously.

Absolutely, Will and Jesus are terrific training partners and great dudes!

I've stopped by almost all the schools mentioned but I need to stay in Center City (work & car situation) Didn't get the right vibe from Daddis Fight Camps and Balance Studios was too expensive. So was Daddis. I trained in Arizona, New York, and in Ohio... High level schools in the city and they were not nearly as expensive as those schools. I've been practicing BJJ for over 5 years and I'm not looking for a BJJ dominant school anymore. If I'm going to pay $200 a month for a school, they need to be ope all day. I paid $130 in Tuscon and my school was considered most expensive.

I'm not sure, but Brazen Boxing & MMA seems to be the best option for $100 per month. I watced there sparring and then rolled no-gi. I thought it was going to mainly striking but there wrestlers were really good. Most of the guys sparring were very good. I'm taking another class, then Maxercise on Monday.

What's deal with no pricing over the phone or on the website?

It's definitely annoying. I guess they figure if someone actually shows up for an intro class then there's a good chance the person will join, even if it's more than they wanted to pay. I thought that was common everywhere, but apparently not.

I train at BJJ United, just started bjj last month. First, I'm gonna say that any of the schools here you really can't go wrong (Daddis/Philly MMA is affiliated with us and team lloyd irvin so we see a lot of guys back and forth).

the head instructors are jared weiner (lloyd irvin's first black belt) and wilson reis, even though wilson is out of town as a coach for team cruz on TUF. of course by the title, we've got a lot of bjj going around, but we've got muay thai, no-gi, wrestling and kettlebell classes as well.

to be completely honest with you i've forgotten how much it costs (i'm 15) to be here, but i do know that the staff is great, very accommodating, there's always going to be discounts to your tuition depending on your situation i'm guessing.

the facility is about regular sized, big mat, locker rooms, storage with muay thai pads and things, space with chairs and a tv up front.

everyone is a cool guy here. i had visited another school in jersey, ricardo almeida, and i almost went there, but the atmosphere there and here are very different. it was a little more businesslike there, here it's like everyone knows everybody. i was nervous for about 10 minutes in my first class. but everyone is chill, we get all ages and people from everywhere. i think i might owe jared some pushups though, because i may have jinxed the flyers. :x

this place does like a trial and you can see if you like it or not. it'd be super cool to see you there, but again you can't go wrong with any school around here.

BJJ United or Balance but you're going to pay a lot compared to other places. It is worth it though.

Also around where do you live? BJJ United and Daddis for instance are kinda far from each other.
