Pit bull attacked my dog

Coincidentally today, I was talking about pit bulls with my friends because i saw a PSA on facebook (pic below), about how dangerous it is for people who dont have years of experience training dogs to have a pit bull, or a pit bull mix, like the one in the story.

Well I got home tonight and was walking my dog past a park. I heard "NO STOP" I turned and a huge (what looked like) staffordshire bull terrier was sprinting dead on for my husky. unfortunately i was on the wrong side, so it jumped and bit my dog in the side. My dog is a lean 65 lbs, with a loose double layer coat and quick so she shook it free before it could get a clean bite. She yelped loud, and the pit growled and came in from the other side, i was in between and low kicked it as hard as i could in the side. It knocked it a few feet back, but it came in teeth gnashing AGAIN. I kicked it a second time knocking it away, i glanced to the owner and it was a scared looking skinny guy just staring. the dog came in a third time for my dog, and i kicked it a third time, but this time i landed full shin on its head. I was somehow incredibly lucky that i caught it on its cheek rather than its teeth and it got knocked to the ground. by that point the owner was able to get over and grab its collar

i got the owners information and looked my dog over and she was fine, the pit barely broke the skin. i am just so grateful that it was me and my big husky that was there, if it was my fiance walking my dog or if my dog was too small to shake it off the first time, there is no way it couldve been pulled off. I'm not bragging, there are tons of people on here who could probably kick my ass, but just putting it into context, i have trained a few years and done a few thousand low kicks. if it took a 200+ lb trained person THREE KICKS to deter this dog, imagine if it was an average untrained person trying to get it away. imagine if it was a 10 year old kid and he got in between the pit and his dog

I got the guys phone number (and called him to make sure it was his number because of the story below), and saw his ID, so I called animal control.

but seriously IF YOU DO NOT HAVE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE TRAINING DOGS, DO NOT GET A PIT BULL

IF YOU CANNOT TRAIN A DOG TO STOP OR COME BACK IMMEDIATELY THE FIRST TIME YOU CALL IT, DONT GET A PIT BULL

why cant people just get a fucking lab

Should've taken the pit to the ground instead of standing and trading. That's fucking scary though, good thing you and your dog are fine.

Another thing people need to keep in mind is that if you can't control your dog, don't let it run off leash. My dog has been attacked a few times now by dogs who were off leash and their owners had absolutely no control over their dog.

One time an off-leash dog attacked my leashed dog and I kicked the attacking dog a few times until it ran away. I screamed at the lady and she responded by saying "I didn't attack your dog." I yelled back "that may be, but you are in charge of that dog and ultimately responsible for it's actions. If you can't control your dog don't let it off leash." She ended up crying and walking away.
 
Stupid dogs and stupid owners ruin it for everyone.
 
Pit bulls are not bad dogs, it was the owner who was a bad owner

A lot of those idiots just need to get a cat. They clean themselves, are affectionate, don't smell, aren't dirty, shit inside a box you can easily clean.

Any idiot stupid enough to let their dog off leash is asking for a lawsuit. You get a dog with a propensity for violence you better f***ing take care of it; it's not the dog's fault it's yours.

And good to know that low kicks work, I'll remember that if I get attacked by a pit bull again.

pit bulls can be trained to be good dogs, but they are more likely to be bad dogs

regardless, the thing is, if you fuck up with a pit bull, it will go and fuck shit up. if you fuck up with a lab, it will very likely stop the first time the other dog yelps and would definitely stop when someone kicks it

thats why isaid people shouldnt get it if they arent experienced enough to train their dog to have almost no margin of error. a pit bull only has to snap once to cause irreparable damage, so if it you cant train it to stop the first time you call... yeah. and most people cannot train any dog to stop the first time they are called

thanks, i think it only worked because it was focused on my dog, if it were focused on me, it probably couldve bit my leg as it came in. i was in full adrenaline and was more worried for my dog, so i didnt think about it until after

i noticed you said "again", so i assume you were attacked. sorry to hear that, they are frightening

Yeah but I didn't get hurt thankfully, he ran at me and I managed to climb up a tree

The other problem is that there are people who take pride in their dogs beating other dogs in a fight. I remember talking to this one asshole bragging about how tough his dog was. He was telling me some story about how this one dog had a reputation for being tough at the dog park until his dog kicked that dog's ass. What kind of retard takes pride in their dog fighting at a public dog park?
 
I am a cat guy, but I love dogs too. It just pisses me off so much when you hear of these tough guys who get these tough dogs to enforce their bravado. Those are the idiots who can't train a dog and as a result it ends up hurting somebody else, or their pet.

Sounds like a typical douche bag. Unfortunately, when his dog kills someone else's pet, it will be his dog who suffers and not him.
