another height= size thread lol, bendo is a huge ww, hes like shogun he packs weight in his legs and hes not short for lw, hes a legit 5'9, him and gsp are very close in height
His legs are fucking huge so the picture is cut off and makes him look smaller. He is going to TD Diaz all day .
Do you really need that much weight in your glutes and quads for MMA? Look at Jone Jones and Silva, both stick legs and dominating. GSP has thick legs but his core is thicker than nearly everyone which is what I attribute his wresting strength to.
Jones has a massive chest which is why his wresting is so good also. Not sure what strong legs really gives you in a MMA fight except perhaps power take downs and more powerful (but slower?) kicks? Chaels legs aren't massive and he is a dominant top control wrestler.
Well, I wasn't advocating for having huge legs, just explaining why Benson looks so much smaller than Diaz even though they weigh in at the same weight.
But to your point, I think you'd be surprised. Having strong legs helps your control in the clinch and a lot of the power in your punches comes from your legs, believe it or not. You don't necessarily need huge legs, but I'd think it helps more than it hurts any way you measure it.
Also, as you mentioned having strong legs helps you explode into a power double.

I see what you're saying but I probably have to disagree. I mean after looking at how dominant Jon Jones is at wrestling it seems like thick legs isn't really needed for good wrestling. Same with Chael. Spider Andersons legs are skinny and he knocked out Belfort with ease with his foot and has powerful hands.
Seems the modern MMA build is favoring skinny but strong legs and thick chests and arms. Besides GSP I can't really think of anyone that has very muscly legs and has been very successful in the last 3 years.

EDIT: Unless you're saying that having strong legs isn't good -or might even be bad- for all those things. In which case yeah, we disagree.
I am saying having very big legs like Benson is worse as it takes your ability to have more muscle on your upper body where the majority of grappling, punching, wrestling, etc power comes from.
I used Jon Jones as the modern MMA athlete who is dominating whilst having extraordinary thin legs.
One must ask what the functional point of extreme muscle on legs in an MMA fight. This isn't a 100m sprint (unless you're condit I guess)
I disagree with you. jones dominates from pure technique. not from his body build. His body biuld helps his striking a lot though.guys like gsp,bendo,palhares get a lot of help with their wrestling from the size of their lower body and mucles in general.
in practicality the muscles in the lower body are more use full then the mucsles in the upper body for mma.
