Media PFL's Donn Davis talks about UFC trying to turn "Sugar Shane" into next McGregor, PFL matchmaking

I remember when their prized signing who they were paying nearly $1 million a fight (Anthony Pettis) fought a guy without a Wikipedia page. Then their other prized signing (Jeremy Stephens) fought that guy as well lmao.

...and that guy was the only PFL win for either of them!

<WhatItIs>

And now they're gonna pay Pettis another 750k to lose to Cedric Dummy.

They also paid Francis Ngannou to lose boxing matches instead of actually fighting in MMA lmao.

Davis is a moron … PFL will never make a single penny

Isn’t this the dude who is stiffing fighters in his organization and not honoring contracts?
Herein lies the issue. This doofus is STILL out and about over social media seemingly having an opinion on every hot combat spots topic, yet wont even address the crucial current issues in relation to his OWN organization (as if it's a non-issue).

No wonder Kayla dipped.

So the UFC should just throw the chips up and let them land where they land, ok.

Flip side lets be smart about our matchmaking and help build up fighters that may turn into stars, all the while building more and more revenue. Sugar is a good example of the UFC being smart with the match making and then when they let him go he has performed and is now a solid draw for the company.

Don Davis is going to learn the hard way that just being a good fighter doesn't make your company money. People don't just tune in for the "sport" of it and that is very true in almost all sports.

I would argue selective matchmaking and building up fighters even if they aren’t the best is more important then being „the best”. You could exchange the rosters of the pfl and UFC and people would still say the UFC is better.

People are literally saying MVp is a fav over Ian Garry which would be unbelievable if he was still in bellator

That all goes back to a good fighters doesn't always equal big revenue for an org. Biggest decision the UFC ever made was to promote the UFC over any fighter first and foremost. They built a brand, when every other org wants to build fighters "first" mentality. Competitors have always talk about how great they are to the fighters over the UFC, yet behind the scenes fighters have many of the same problems they have with any promoter including the UFC. Only select few get to write their own ticket. ie: Francis.
