News PFL Beats UFC to Yet Another Elite prospect....

Yeh, who knows with those two.

Mix was supposed to be elite as well and look how he turned out the moment he came to the UFC. Losing to a mid level guy and then a debutant lol.
Didnt you hear… he was out of his prime. A in prime Mix captures Gold in 6months of fighting UFC, so I’ve heard.

Good luck fighting once a year at the annual PFL event in Dubai or Qatar.
This he'll fight like once every 3 yrs when there's an event.
Hope he's getting paid 2milly per fight before pfl inevitably fold.

That's frustrating, I would much rather have him than Usman Nurmagomedov tbh

UFC have enough "ov"s already.

Also, how did they drop the ball with Paul Hughes? Hughes is pretty decent, but he's not some needle mover. Losing twice in a row to Usman didn't help him either.

I thought he should have won the rematch to be fair.

Remember that Reinhardt (IIRC) guy?
He was 16 - 0 on the regional.
was a ton of threads on here about how UFC should sign him.
They finally did... He got to face a young Joe Lauzon. Took Joe less than 2 min to choke him out.
Dude ended his career 20-3 all losses in the UFC all ended in the first round.

It happends lots of fighters are hyped outside of the UFC upon entering, I see it more from UFC/Dana haters always hyping them only for them to have a lackluster career. Im done doubting it, but a high percentage of the worlds best is in the UFC at this point, . I really thought Hatsu Hioki was going make a splash.

I think it's more the strategy of this camp than the UFC being beaten by the PFL
They get them in the tournaments to make a million or half a million in the first two years, rather than fighting for 5+5 in the DWCS, then 3 fights at 10+10 in the UFC
Khaybulaev, Rabadanov, Khizriev won the tournaments recently. Magomedkerimov retired after two tournament wins, the same as Aubin-Mercier

To be fair you could argue that they're still being beaten by PFL by virtue of not offering enough of a financial incentive themselves for top talents.

By offering the most exciting LW in Europe a dwcs type contract. It's insulting I'm sure Hughes would have chosen UFC over PFL if they came with a respectable offer even if that offer was lower than PFLs. I dont think losing to Usman changes anything, Most UFC LW fighters would as well. Hughes still clearly a top top talent that would instantly be a top 10 UFC LW and give us some of the best LW fights.

This. The dude has 8 fights crushing regional cans. Let him get some more experience and a couple wins that mean something.
I wouldn't call UFC vets with wins in the UFC and opponents with wins over UFC fighters "regional cans". He has experience and wins that mean something. Just look at his last 3 opponents. All have fought and won in one of the big 3 promotions or have wins over someone that have.

I like Hughes, but I don't really think he would be all that exciting to the casuals.

It's going to suck for him. When PFL folds or they stop giving him fights and it's time to jump to the UFC, he's going to get low-balled hard.

Why do you think so? I can’t remember a boring fight he has been in. Even when he loses he’s entertaining. His fight with Usman is the best LW fight of the year so far.

Whatever gets him to the UFC, I’m all for it. So many fun matchups to be made. Him vs Paddy Pimblett instantly comes to mind. I actually think that’s a fight he does really well in. Wouldn’t surprise me if he knockouts Paddy.

You are reaching... There is the UFC and everyone else, not a "Big 3". Getting a couple wins over nobodies in ONE doesn't mean anything. Getting a win over the Opponent of a former UFC fighter (not the actual UFC fighter) who just finished an 0-4 UFC run doesn't mean anything. This isn't Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon. This guy's best win is over a guy who went 1-3 UFC. Let's see him fight somebody worth a damn before concluding the UFC missed out. If he can run through a few of these guys in impressive fashion than maybe he is worth something. Then again he could be another Patchy Mix, Will Brooks, etc.
