Pettis should have tried to make 155 "just in case", regardless of the failed negotiations. With all the withdrawals and the madness around the event, he should have thought of the possibility that the UFC would have to ask him again to fight Khabib.

He would have been the only one at championship weight left after Felder was denied by the commission. IMO he just bailed on the last great move of his career.

If they aren't going to commit to paying him he shouldn't commit to dehydrating himself.

It's only a great move if he wins. Otherwise it's up to 25 minutes of getting beaten up for another loss, no win bonus, dropping back further from the title and not the money he wanted.

So should have Iaquinta.

This is a one way ticket for Khabib to get the belt, or McNeverDefend to keep his.

He only had 0,2 pound left to cut and the UFC would have been forced to ask him again, at a higher price, after Felder got denied.

I read they took the scale away before he had a chance and he wanted more money that they wouldn't budge on. You never know what the hell is true or not at this point. I can barely believe the card will still be on come fight time after all this shit.

Why Felder got denied? I thought they just scrapped him because he's not ranked high.

Do you think they´ll let Conor keep a belt?? I think he´s done fighting. At least in the ufc.

He probably is, but you KNOW Greedypotomus will let him hang onto that shit if he even THINKS there's a possibility of his cash cow coming back.

But they weren't forced. They went with Iaquinta.

It's only a great move career wise and financially if he wins. Otherwise he's just taking a fight against a fighter who styallistically is a terrible match up and who is arguably the best in the division without any targeted preparation. For not enough money.

Or he doesn't take the fight. Fights Chiesa in a month and has a higher chance of taking home a win bonus along with moving up the rankings.

"Hey can you come into work tomorrow? We might not need you, so not guaranteeing pay. But come in anyway. Also, if we do need you and you can't hit your KPI today, you aren't getting that promotion."

That would be an absolute joke and an utter disrespect with all the other fighters!

It´s the UFC so yeah, it makes sense.

He would have to want to fight him. I feel bad for Khabib in all of this. He really has nothing go gain. Except maybe a title shrouded in controversy.

Only because nobody was available at 155, so why not go with the cheapest option. I guarantee you they'd have signed Pettis if he was the only fighter at championship weight. Also it was only 0,2 pound, it wasn't such a big deal.

When the main event loses a fighter the replacement should just be allowed the extra 1 fucking pound to save a card, especially if the other fighter wants to fight. These rules are to nic picky, it's stupid.

Absolutely agree. He is in a lose everything get pretty much ( controversial belt) nothin situation.

It’s the athletic commissions rules not the UFC. The AC determined the weight limits. I don’t think any AC has a backup plan for what went down this week at UFC 223. That’s some craziness.

0.2lbs is a lot when you're already dehydrated. You really shouldn't do it especially if they aren't willing to guarantee. All the UFC had to do was agree to his terms, instead they looked elsewhere.

And fighting Khabib is probably the worst thing for his career. One more loss and he isn't getting back into the top 10. Better he gets his show money now, and fights Chiesa in a month or two. The fight is at least winnable. And sets him up for another shot at the top 10, instead of being mauled for 25 minutes and being a highlight for Khabib.

I'm hoping Conor gets stripped no matter what, since he's probably facing some kind of suspension at this point.

They could have weighed Iaquinta's or Pettis' fight shorts & subtracted that from their weights. I also didn't hear if there was any mention of Pettis vs Felder... Any idea if discounts or refunds will be (or were) offered to ticketholders?

The weight cutting situation in MMA NEEDS to be resolved.

On the face of it is it not absurd anyway if you have 2 fighters walking around at say 175 and they both bring themselves to the edge of death to weigh in at 155 then are back up to 175 in the cage anyway?

What's the point of that? Just have a Dr. ascertain their healthy weight and boom there's your weight category.
