He didn't look like his usual self. That's unfortunate. Props to Merab, he was the better man. Yan will be back. Will always support him
He did look like his usual self.....that's the problem...he is a simply a good... but not great ....fighter....I saw this from his very first ufc fight....Yan will always have problems with fighters that take the fight to him and when Yan cannot control the pace

Should have pulled out in that case.

His job is basically come 100% on fight night.

Yeah he looked flatter and slower than usually. And he fatigued uncharacteristically but fighters are always injured and it was a mauling.
He looked flatter and slower because Merab took out his lead leg early. That calf kick in the first caused Yan to switch stances and he was never really able to adjust after that.

Staying healthy is delicate balance in a brutal competition. Need to be in top form which requires rigorous training but go to hard and get injured. Takes time to heal , harder to cut weight. Even if can avoid an injury, immune system also stresses and MMA gyms not the most hygienic environment. Scrapes , blood and sweat. They all have same challenges so those that can push themselves but stay healthy have better chance for winning. Cruz injuries began his slide.

He didn't look like himself to me, you can say it was because Merab was too good, but I dont have a problem believing there was an injury

The Big Nog book helped me get off work.

He looked like he always does to me, he is very hesitant and tentative and barely throws anything for the first 8 minutes, he is like that in every single fight. after 8 minutes he will throw more and actually do something but its a huge flaw of him, and the opponents now all know it. I've been saying this for ages on here. Unless he can fight from the very first second and throw more then he is going to be losing a lot more decisions in UFC.

He is 1-4 in his last 5 and it will continue until he is cut because like I said the opponents have now seen all the film on him and they know.. it was the same with Cerrone, everyone started to notice that he started slow and they overwhelmed him. Yan needs to let go, far too hesitant and too much staring all the time.

Seriously, if I were Merab I would post how I was injured and still dominated him. Everybody is injured to some extent, it should not be an excuse if the fighter is cleared to fight and willing to do so.

One more thing is like to say is I imagine that every fighter comes into fight night with some kind of injury. Of course they can vary in how extreme the injury is but I really don’t think anyone is walking in the cage at 100%.

In all fairness he usually spends a round or two just feeling someone out and warming up conserving energy. Merab made him fight an all gas and no brakes style fight every second start to finish. Injured or not we never seen Yan have to exert himself remotely close to this.

Exactly this.

Yan is usually the cardio machine in fight but this time he ran into Merab who's cardio is just off the charts. I have never watched a fighter that attempted 40+ take down attempts and still was fighting in the 5th round at the same pace as he was in the first just unbelievable.

The first Sterling fight was closer than people remember, the second one was a close loss, then a close win over Sandhagen, another close loss to O’Malley, and now a clear loss to Merab.
He also struggled in his wins over Dodson and Rivera.

So yeahhhh im calling bs on him being injured. More like we preemptively crowned him the next king of BW when he didnt really have any elite wins besides a washed Aldo.

He clearly belongs amongst the elite of the division, hes just not a level above them like we thought he was.

I can believe it. Nothing to take away from Merab, but that man had problems with his legs since almost the beginning. He couldn’t throw a full power punch, couldn’t kick expect for a few times low, couldn’t switch stances, in effect all things that make him a great fighter. You can say merab did it or merab just hit something already injured, but yeah, eye test showed that was no man that fought Cory or Aljo. You could see that he has too much pride to give up, but also that he can’t do anything but defend. It is what it is, take that L and go work on things you need to work on.

This would explain why someone like Aljo had much bigger problema than Merab and I don’t see Merab being better than Aljo. Maybe Yan is lying, but I believe him.

Of course, nothing against Merab, he did exactly what he needed to do for a smooth win.

I'll never understand the masses of monkeys who just assume fighters must be lying about injuries

Injuries are never
mentioned if the fights are won
Krylov from the same event. I think he listed multiple injuries including knee injury and even said that if the fight lasted all 3 rounds he wouldn’t win (something like his body would gave up).
I don't believe any woman has knowingly fought pregnant. I googled and couldn't find anything on this.
Yeah, I looked at mmafighting.com and there is only speculation that Kunitskaya fought pregnant (she denied it) and back in Strikeforce days Coker said that Dandois withdrew from the fight because she is 3 months pregnant which if true means that she fought when she was 2 months pregnant.

The last two arguably split decisions destroyed his ego. Life is not easy.
