Pereira is already higher than Izzy in the "all time great" rankings

I disagree, during his run Izzy was untouchable. Jan broke his magic, but Pereira also couldn't decisively beat an older, slower version of Jan.

Pereira has no chance of matching Izzys legacy outside of beating Jones really or winning against Jiri in the same way he did Ank.
What? He already KO’D Jiri COLD twice? Do you want to give Jiri CTE?

Poatan moving up also solidifies Adesanya’s reign though.

That KO win over Adesanya looks better and better the more guys that Poatan destroys.

- Won the UFC belt faster in the UFC than Izzy*
This is 100% because of Izzy. Alex only made his way in the UFC because he had kickboxing history with him

- Despite a compromised weight cut at MW he was able to win the belt and destroyed Izzy.*
Destroyed? Standing TKO for a win is destroyed? How did that rematch go? compromised weight cut? How about had to cut weight to fight smaller guys? How about Despite the massive size discrepancy Izzy KO'd him dead cold.

- Pereira is always a class act and truly humble*
Is he really? Pretty classless to do the
giphy-downsized.gif

Maybe it was spur of the moment against Hill but he did it again against Ank.
He also discredited Ank saying he was 40% rather than say he was the better man that night in the first fight.

Your "Facts" are mostly spun for your opinion.
Izzy > Alex at MW
Alex is behind a lot of guys IMO as a LHW. Jones, Chuck, Randy, Shogun are all higher on the LHW GOAT list. He has only fought 1 guy at LHW that isn't a perfect style match up and he is 1-1 against him. Throw in a SD over Jan in a 3 rounder. If Alex were to fight LHWs with good wresting would he be where he is??? He is fortunate there basically aren't any.
LOL

Shogun tapped to strikes.

One of the dumbest takes I've seen on this forum. Well done

I have huge respect for Izzy but Poatan has no doubt surpassed him p4p. He's cleared out a generation at LHW and has wins over Izzy and Strickland at MW. Granted LHW isn't the best division atm but Jiri, Jan, Ank, Khalil and Hill is still better than Whittaker, Costa, Vettori, Cannonier and Gastelum. He's never been on the wrong side of an embarrassing upset like Izzy vs Strickland (first Ank fight was disappointing but he wasn't a huge favorite and it was still close), he has a near 100% finishing rate whereas Izzy played it safe and cruised to uneventful decisions several time.

Poatan set out to surpass Izzy and he did that so give him his respect!

Yeah it really is interesting how it all turned out.

When Poatan first came into the UFC never in a million years would I thought he'd be boasting these types of accolades.

Yeah, I remember hoping he'd get a title shot against Izzy and that's the most I really thought we'd get

Absolutely nobody expected him to be a top 10 of all time

If izzy never fell off he would be ranked higher

I just think Izzy sort of checked out after knocking out Alex. His legacy has taken a hit after that. Izzy is still one of the best fighters we've ever seen, easily number 2 MW all time,

The only thing that's obvious is that it was a split decision that some would contest.
Izzy was untouchable during his reign.
It was a clearly 2-1 for Alex, shitty judges won't change that.

Izzy in his prime was untouchable and didn't do that much damage too

There's no class for a mf who talked about his alcoholism.
Having class isn't something you turn on and off when it suits. Its classy to KO or dominate and then let that do all the talking. Go watch GSP and how he handled shit talkers like Koscheck, Diaz etc.

They both benefited tremendously from their rivalry, win or lose. Probably why they are so cordial and respectful to each other now.
