You never know when you are going to be put in a horrible situation...learning mma for self defense is honorable. Whilst learning mma for money or to beat someone us is unhonorable (of course of you enjoy the sport that is honorable too). However, what you said about the wrist protection is correct.

We try to train as we would fight. Our entire team uses our MMA gloves on all of our bag and pad work.

I know a bunch of you are gonna rip this but...we dont use wraps at all. Our Coach (who is a lifelong Golden Gloves boxer) doesnt believe in wraps, in his opinion all the wrap does is give your opponent a little extra padding.

For our standup we use 16oz boxing gloves, Grappling we use the 8oz "ground and pound" gloves.

Our team has been doing this for 3 years and havnt run into any problems yet.

That is kind of what I am making fun of. I got alot of respect for the "real" MMA fighters because they truly work fucking hard and most of them are awesome guys to be around. I hang out with a group of 5 who are some of my best friends I just hate the guys who come into a boxing gym for help and then try to act hard because they think just because they can do a little ground work they can kick anyones ass when in reality if they were to piss off most of the guys in the gym it wouldnt make one shit of difference if they knew how to do the death touch cause most of the guys in my gym have a 12 guage in the trunk and a 9mm in the gym bag. That is the reality of the street and if you want to train for the street buy a nice pistol some good ammo get your concealed weapons permit and hit the range because in most cities the guys who are going to do you harm are not fighters but little cold blooded motherfuckers who would walk into your house shoot you in the face piss on your body and sit down and eat a bowl of cheetos.
ASk Kabuki about the dude who rolled up on us training one day. He said yeah I used to box in prison but I gave boxing up now I just carry a 9 Iron.
I would love to see someone shoot a double leg on his ass.
I talked to him the other day and he is 35 just spent 15 years in the state pen for attempted murder in a botched drive-by and is now out on parole.
That is the reality of the street not wearing a tap-out shirt, pain inc hat and KTFO doo-rag and trying to be hard.
