It's best reserved for champions with 4-5 title defenses instead of 0-1. These days it's an automatic pass to other weights. It's like we asked for a glass of water but we were given a barrel and are forced to drink it.

Stuff I’ve read says Dana said Hill was next. But with injuries you’re never sure when the injured fighter will for sure be healthy enough to fight.

Then there’s the Interim HW champion. The other champ is injured as well. There’s the same injury timeline issues. But when he’s healthy he’s not going to unify the title. He’s planning on cherry picking Stipe instead.

So in the meantime why not have this other fight? It doesn’t hold up anything in either division. As they’re both on hold anyway.

So none of the arguments people are making against Aspinall/Alex really make sense, or apply. It’s an extraordinary situation. And sounds like a good fight for that 300 card.

Totally agree. There was constant bitching about GSP not moving up ti fight Silva and now it's bitching about Islam fighting featherweights. That's just a couple examples too. How many threads were there that Jon was scared and would never fight at heavyweight? There's really no pleasing people, the narrative takes hold and people use it to discredit fighters they don't like

People didn't start talking about GSP and Jones moving up until they had cleaned out their divisions and established themselves as GOATs. Aspinall and Pereira haven't even defended their titles yet. Pereira only has 2 fights at LHW. Completely different scenario.

People were absolutely talking about GSP Silva before he fought Hendricks so he obviously hadn't cleaned out his division. My larger point was that fans use moving up/down to discredit fighters. GSP and Jones were scared for not moving up, that was the narrative. Islam beat an undersized fighter, that's the narrative. GSP cherry picked bisping, that's the narrative. I'm obviously not talking about every fan but you definitely see those narratives
