Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) accused House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) of "singling out" newly elected women of color in Congress, in an interview with the Washington Post on Wednesday.

"When these comments first started, I kind of thought that she was keeping the progressive flank at more of an arm’s distance in order to protect more moderate members, which I understood. But the persistent singling out … it got to a point where it was just outright disrespectful … the explicit singling out of newly elected women of color."
The big picture: Ocasio-Cortez made the comments after Pelosi warned progressives in a closed-door meeting Wednesday to privately air party grievances, according to WashPost, Politico, USA Today and other outlets, citing sources present in the room.

  • The outlets quote Pelosi as saying, "You got a complaint? You come and talk to me about it. But do not tweet about our members and expect us to think that that is just OK."
  • Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) told WashPost she found Pelosi's comments "demoralizing."
"I am worried about the signal that it sends to people I speak to and for, who sent me here with a mandate, and how it affects them."— Rep. Pressley
Context: Both parties have publicly aired disagreements in recent days. On Saturday, Pelosi singled out Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) and Ocasio-Cortez in an interview with the New York Times.

"All these people have their public whatever and their Twitter world. But they didn’t have any following. They’re four people and that’s how many votes they got."
  • Ocasio-Cortez tweeted in response, "That public 'whatever' is called public sentiment. And wielding the power to shift it is how we actually achieve meaningful change in this country."
Why it matters: The situation highlights the political and generational divide between the most powerful woman in U.S. politics and the progressives trying to push the party left, as WashPost notes.

Dems now rush in to support Pelosi (David Lo Pan as I lovingly say)

Just when you thought our politics couldn’t get any more entertaining......watching the Dem party fracture itself might seem funny or enjoyable for us “deplorables” but really there is a sad precedent taking place here. I’ve always said that I’m saddened at how acceptable it has become to want socialism and the Dems have tripled down and move the party so far left, that the my Dems of the 90’s would be literally hitler today

I often joke about this but the sheer lunacy of she guevara and the fresh faces leads me to believe that they are either astronomically dumb people or are Republican plants sent to destroy the dem party from within. Either way looks like the decades or far left “racism this and racism that” has come home to roost and the entertainment has just begun. The shark was jumped long ago and I believe it’s going to take a humiliating defeat at the hands of Trump in 2020 to get the dem party back to its base and rebuilt from the ground up

So far I say Cecil Peoples scores this one a 10-8 for Lo Pan

Brain dead AOC pulls the race card every time anyone criticizes her. Imagine being that obsessed with your identity.

More telling than Pelosi's singling out those Reps was her not defending Ilhan Omar from the right wing attacks (even from her own party).
So, while I don't think she's racist, AOC has a point to call her out on this. And I like AOC a lot, don't like Pelosi at all, but I wish she didn't escalate this one quite so far as she did.

No, more telling is that AOC plays the race card like she thinks it's the Joker.

The "fracture" generated by four well-intentioned but naive liberal cats is way overblown. Pelosi is learning them a thing or two about politics. She's a fucking G, and the race-baiting is going nowhere. They'll have to grow up a little.

This was a careless comment on her part. I feel her other comments were either on point or benign.

Nancy got asked a lot about the new ladies and gives her opinion it's not like she has been going out of her way to bash them. But for them to play vitcim, "Oh woman of color so thefore racist" is funny. The left eating it's own, we knew it would come to this and won't stop.

This is what I mean when I say "overblown." This just isn't the hugely dramatic episode of cannibalism that you wish it was.

David Lo Pan finna lay a smack down on Loco Cortez

I think you under estimate the lunacy of the fresh faces and they will no doubt keep escalating this situation. Like I said the dems are just now reaping what they sowed

No it isn't and I didn't mean it like that, I am not the MSM. I know right wingers are trying to hype it up to watch the left fight with their own but it's small actually. It could grow though. What are your feelings on it all?

Escalating to...

That these women are not going to change the direction of the party, and their absurd cries of racism against Pelosi will not go anywhere.

AOC has accused Pelosi of inciting fucking death threats, assclown.

She guevara just insinuated her life might be at risk via death threats. Haha I know you always have your head in the sand but look up once in a while
