Peer-to-peer lending, also abbreviated as P2P lending, is the practice of lending money to individuals or businesses through online services that match lenders with borrowers. Since peer-to-peer lending companies offering these services generally operate online, they can run with lower overhead and provide the service more cheaply than traditional financial institutions.

So basically, if you've got $5 to 10 grand lying around, you may invest it as a lender in a P2P site(s) and have it earn anywhere from 5 to 10% interest annually depending on how risky you are.

What exactly can I gain from this if I am interested in gaining monthly supplemental income? Say that I will earn 7.5% annually from investing X amount of cash, I will need to have invested $160,000.00 to earn $1000 or .625% monthly. That's in simple interest, it may vary a bit depending on the company.
