I have to point out a couple of things.

This probe is outside of the Special Counsel. This is being headed by the SDNY.

Also Trump's charity is being investigated by the State of NY which is outside of the DOJ and Trump can't pardon anything that comes up from that.

There are 3 separate investigations into Trump and the one he has the most ability to influence is Mueller's

They will believe and unfortunately they will be very wrong that the Russia probe triggered all of this when in actuality the investigations into Cohen, Trump and his charity were going to come about with or without the Russia probe. I would posit that it's done far more often for journalistic reasons- to verify before publication. If it ain't there, the story sits. (Early reporting on Watergate for example.)
It's sort of unusual to have a friendly tabloid pay sluts off in exchange for silence and burying the story.

I think there's another aspect to this arrangement between Trump and the Enquirer that wasn't spoken on. Everyone talks about Trump having stories buried about himself, I think Trump probably had negative stories about his rivals posted in the Enquirer as well. Having stories buried on himself is one thing, but using a magazine to go after his rivals is a whole other level of slimeballishness if you ask me.

We are talking about stories that were buried that could have changed the outcome of the election. Since they were buried we don't actually know what those stories entail.
