Alright, Sherbums, time to settle this—who do you got in the upcoming title fight between Julianna Peña and Raquel Pennington?

On one side, you’ve got Peña, the former champ who shocked the world when she submitted Amanda Nunes and became the queen of the division. Then there’s Pennington, a true vet who’s been on a killer win streak and finally earned her shot at gold.

Peña’s got that relentless pressure and grappling, but Pennington’s been looking sharper than ever and has the striking to make it a tough night for anyone. So, what’s it gonna be?

I love Julianna Pena. Yeah she's confident in herself to the point of being delusional, but that's exactly what enabled her to go after Nunes without fear and shock the world in their first fight.

The problem here is that Raquel is a Jon Fitch. She has an incredibly boring but effective ground game that's really hard to defend, and the longer the fight goes the worse it likely is for Pena. She has to stay vertical and finish within the first two rounds. It's not the most favorable matchup for the Vixen, but I hope she pulls it off.

the only real question mark for me is how elevation will effect this fight. Pennington has decent enough cardio but no urgency, if pena can hold her typical 5 round pace she wins easy

I like Pena even though I get why many don't. In fairness its part because I think she's really hot but I also like aggressive grapplers

I agree with you that this is a bad match up for her. I will be very upset if we have to endure "Rocky" as champ any longer, could you imagine she goes into the history books as a defending champion? Women's champions should be either good at the sport or good looking and Pennington is neither.

Pena takes it. I just can't commit to Pennington because you don't know which personality shows up on fight night.

Pennington is so foot slow but has good hand speed.

Peña has incredibly predictable offense but is tough and willing to make it ugly to gas out opponents.

I see Peña holding her in the clinch a lot and getting tagged up in the middle, all comes down to if she can get takedowns going or not.

Gun to my head I lean Peña but with no confidence (like playing Russian Roulette with 3 bullets in the chamber).

They're both extremely mediocre in terms of technical skills, but Peña is way tougher than Pennington.

I'd hope Pena cause despite myself not really being a fan of her, she isn't boring and is one half of the reason why the presser from the other day wasn't a complete snooze fest. Pennington is just boring and offered nothing at that presser.

Elevation only factor pena wins that fight 9/10 times. She can get pennington down and Rocky cant get up. shown through the fight. I think Utah is the only Reason rocky looked fresher in the end, Otherwise she'd be sitting on the stool dejected like when nunes beat the shit out of her.

If they fought again, i'd bet on Pena. Again.

Pena is only behind nunes. She's the second greatest fighter to ever compete at 135

She won though so how were our calls terrible? Also, Pena does not suck more than Pennington did as champ. People may find Pena annoying or whatever but she certainly isn't boring and knows how to keep her name in people's mouths which is something one DEFINITELY needs as champ, especially if they aren't a finishing machine or particularly super skilled at something. Pennington is not a good enough fighter to get away with being a boring block of wood on the mic like she is. She will definitely be one of those forgettable champs in the future, where as Pena won't.

Pena wont be forgotten simply for the fact she beat the shit out of nunes and made her quit. not submit her, not tko her, but make her literally just give up and lose.

Sucks as a champ? That is just complete and total bitch ass hater shit. She just got her title back and she's not afraid of nunes despite getting knocked down that many times she kept coming forward, never gave up and said "I can't do it" on the stool like pennington did. Pena is a fucking animal. Still isn't afraid of Nunes and wants to settle business. she's not a better fighter skills wise, but she's less a quitter, is grittier and has the most determination of any Female fighter and since WMMA sucks, That's all that's required to be champ.

It's not a moot point though because whether you want to agree with it or not. How a champ is outside of the cage is important to the people too not just he promotion, and definitely does influence people when it comes to who is a good champion and who isn't. Jon Jones is looked at as one of the worst champions ever despite his resume cause of how he is outside of the cage. I'm not necessarily saying a champ has to be someone like Pena outside of it, but they have to be interesting in some way for people to care about them negatively or positively and Pennington is just not interesting in any way and she isn't good enough inside the cage to afford to not be interesting.
