1. There's no such thing as pulling out of a fight that you never signed the dotted line on. The only thing there is is the illusion of a pullout that the UFC deliberately manufactured as a strongarming tactic. Next up is Dana up at the podium doing his usual "So and so doesn't want the fight" routine. The fans who don't like said fighter or have a certain narrative going will hop on the company bandwagon as an opportunity to trash them.He says this every time he's booked for a fight lol. He's the only person who ever says this.
Yeah, it's happened to others before but he pretty much does this every single time he is announced to have a fight. According to Dana, it's in their contract that he HAS to offer them 3 fights a year or he still has to pay them for the fights, if he doesn't....
I think Pullout Paula is doing exactly that, pulling out.
2. We don't know how often fighters relent to signing contracts that they otherwise wouldn't have as a result of the UFC announcing the fight to the public before it was a done deal. We also don't know how often they don't but it slips our attention due to the involved parties not having the kind of name and/or social media presence that Costa does. Maybe Costa just doesn't want to play this game? If he truly didn't want to fight Whittaker for whatever reason, I don't see what reason he'd have for verbally agreeing to it in any capacity.
3. We'll have to see what happens. If the fight goes on, great. If not, blame the UFC for getting your hopes up. Costa didn't get in front of a camera and break this announcement before he had signed the bout agreement. Dana did, and I highly doubt Costa even knew he was going to.
