Yeah, what a shitty time. They didn't even have fentanyl and weren't encouraging teen girls to have mastectomies yet. And the way things were affordable and we had tight knit communities that looked out for each other,... *cringe and shudder* .... hell there were barely any mass shootings either. Good thing we're where we're at now.
This is more what I’m taking about and less specific to this monologue. People are not encouraging teenage girls to get mastectomies. You’ve let social media blow this issue way out of proportion in your mind. Trans people have existed since the beginning of time.
You talk about 1965 as if it were so great. That’s because you know a white washes history of it that leave out the bad. There was a lot of thing wrong in the 60s but people as a society just pretended it didn’t exist.
You brought up fentanyl bud all that is is stronger heroin, which was definitely prevalent in the 60s. Unhappy marriages women couldn’t get out of were prevalent. Women taking medication to deal with their unhappy lives was prevalent, which is what he was talking about when he said pills. Men getting drunk all the time, cheating on their spouses and beating them was normal.
That’s just off the top of my head what was wrong with the white, middle America nuclear families. Racism and racial oppression is something that would take way more typing than I want to get into. You can do this for every decade in our history, but it would require you taking off the rose tinted glasses and giving it an honest look.
But if you happened to be one of the lucky ones that was in an actual marriage founded on lasting love, were religious, didn’t have a massive drinking problem, and most importantly were lucky enough to be born white, 60s America was probably pretty great.
