Aged 26, born in Brussels but French citizen, Abdeslam Salah was arrested on March 18 in Molenbeek, municipality of the Belgian capital where he grew up after four months on the run. He is believed to have played at least a key role in preparations for the attacks in Paris , who made 130 dead and hundreds injured on November 13th.

Statement from his former Belgian lawyer Sver Mary:

On the report of his client with religion , he emphasized his ignorance : "He and his friend managed to make this religion look bad. I asked him if he had read the Quran, which I did, and he said he had read his interpretation on the Internet. For simple minds, internet is perfect. The Net is the maximum they can understand . "

I doubt that it was only the internet, this is most likely an attempt by the lawyer to demonize an abstract and rarely understood medium in order to make his client look better. Molenbeek is a shithole and every street corner has a group of the "religiously educated" calling women sluts and threatening to beat up whites. Not to mention a high number of dodgy mosques operating out of basements and private appartments. The muslim community of Belgium has problems which are perhaps facilitated by the internet but stem from the community itself.

Exactly. Which probably isn't true.

Compare him with his muslim friends, and you'll see it's a common view amongst them.
 
He's not a horrible murderous killer, he's a victim of his own lack of intellect!
Well, lawyers gotta do their job no matter what. And this one's job is to defend the killer to the best of his ability.
It's easy to bash defense lawyers but if they didn't exist, justice would be a joke.

And I'm supposed to believe that his Islamic parents never told him anything about Islam?

Btw- he attended a mosque in Belgium so between his parents, friends, and fellow worshipers it isn't like he had no one to correct him if he had bad interpretations.
 
He is trying to paint Abdeslam not as a terrorist mastermind but as a dumb fool. It is a clever strategy I guess.

Just to clarify things, he's not his lawyer anymore, since Abdeslam got transferred to France.

He made this statement just after that.

They are not religious, that's the thing.

Why his former lawyer would be lying? These new "jihadists" like Abdeslam were all little crimals involved in drug traffic, robbing etc.

They are not religious. They've been indoctrinated and don't know shit about religion.
