News Paramount buys UFC rights. PPV model is dead

I didn't say drama. I said the storyline. Or do you watch any fighter you don't know anything about? I mean fair enough if you just like seeing ppl you don't connect with fighting, that's raw passion for MMA only. But the story arc, the saga, rivalry... That's what makes fans engaged.
Story arc? That's pro wrestling bro. All we need is the 30 second summary of the fighter's background before each fight.

Wonder what big stars will be produced in the future, it's a concern with no ppv cut. They need to write streaming numbers etc for events in the contract in that case and with no union etc that will never happen.

I can assure you the PPV points off a PPV that does 79,000 buys is next to nothing.

This is actually a good strategy. The most important fight the UFC ever had was Griffin vs. Bonner which was free on Spike TV. If it was a paid event, no one would have tuned in. This will likely get the UFC a lot more viewers. Hopefully they do pay the fighters more and also move away from events being so politically charged. If not, they're going to shoot themselves in the foot with the latter.

Should be great for us but a HUGE question mark for the champions that will no longer receive PPV points, will they just get more in their contracts or some other alternative means...

I would assume the top guys may be "screwed" unfortunately. There's no other MMA promotion with the eyes and the pockets that the UFC has so going somewhere else means a downturn in pay. If you are a top level UFC fighter that wants to go to boxing that's kind of no win situation also since they are trying to take over boxing too.

If TKO gets everything they want it is going to be difficult to make big money without TKO being involved from a "contact sports" perspective. The only decent avenue I can think of off hand is pro wrestling if you get with AEW and NJPW.

I was making a criticism, I like PPV due to the story incentive, nthe build up. I think everyone does.
Yeah bro, it's just not the same having to pay $150 a year for all content instead of $1500. What a bum ass deal this is.

They don't give PPV points for any PPV that does less than 200K.

That’s basically what I was inferring. Maybe Dana throws them a little something since I’d assume only three PPVs have hit that number this year.

I use an invite-only torrent site and I also can access most streaming services for free. If Paramount+ is stable and the UFC improve their product
I'll join the rest of the herd.
If paramount plus is reasonably priced and gives all UFC content I'll also pay for it.

but imma start bitching real hard if fights are bad and cards are bad and im paying for it. I refrain from whining about bad cards now because im not buying them the second I start paying i want quality. (or at the very least, I want to get what im paying for)
