"Palming" a basketball

Never considered my hands abnormally large but I can palm with either

Didn't quite make the NBA tho

of course. read my other posts in this thread. the looser they are with the rules, the more the superstars can make amazing plays
I get that, but it annoys the shit out of me when you see a guy on a break away not dribble from the half court line to his launch point for a dunk.

It's just... like... come on.

It'd be akin to Rob Gronkowski throwing the CB out of bounds and then trucking a safety to catch a 30 yard pass... ALL before the ball is thrown.

for sure. i wasnt defending it at all. just saying the nba wants their stars to shine. the less pesky "rules" getting in the way the better

I'm not a basketball fanatic so I never heard of it until recently but is it actually true Kevin Durant or other nba players can't hold a basketball with one hand? Seemed pretty trivial when I tried it at the rec center with a "real NBA ball"

I would say the vast majority of NBA players can palm the ball. I'm only 6'0.5" barefoot and played basketball in AAU and high school, but I used to be able to palm the ball. Unfortunately, since then I've inherited a disease that runs in the family that prevents me from doing so. It also fucks my shoulder up, so I can't really shoot like I used to either.

Most professionals and high level amateurs can do that. There is only a handful of guys that were too small to grip basketball securely ever make it past high school ball. I think even most guys that play juco can hold ball with one hand.

Most guys can't do it easily off a dribble at full speed with one hand or catch it with one hand and go right up

Kobe doesn't have the biggest hands... which is why you can see in this picture his thumb is on the seam of the basketball... I can't truly palm a ball, but if you hand me a basketball and let me place my fingers on the seams I can "grip" a basketball.

Jordan could palm a ball effortlessly... like a normal person could palm a softball, plenty of others can as well but quite a few can't control it well without gripping it like Kobe is.

That is actually pretty incredible... can lbj do the same?

I dont think KD can't palm the ball. I'm a foot shorter but I can palm the ball.

But then again, my hands and feet are both abnormally huge for my height (11.5 shoe size for someone 5'9)

It weird. Because i used to be able to palm a ball when i played ball years ago. 15 years go by and my hands shrunk, as i cant even come close now.

Average Person

"I can palm the ball" = Carefully gripping ball, turning over wrist and holding it for 10 seconds or so until it slips out.

I CAN PALM A BASKETBALL!

My dad's about your height and he wears size 8. I'm 6'0.5" and am size 13. My brother is 6'1" and is size 11. I wear XL gloves, but never had my hands properly measured. They're a little curled up these days because of the disease I mentioned earlier (my dad has it too, but not my brother). So maybe not quite as big as they used to be, I don't know. I just know I can't palm the ball anymore.

Okay from this thread average person / sherdogger can palm a ball. I call bullshit.

i can palm a BB im a short stocky knuckledragger man and my family jokes that i am a monkey. Hope i dont trigger anyone.

I can...assuming I'm given multiple attempts and can turn the ball over to find the right grip and don't have to do anything but hold it place. :)

But palming it the way MJ did or controlling it off the dribble at full speed for anything complex is beyond me. I'm forced to use a cupped motion for most of that stuff.
