Palm/Heel of hand strikes

Oh i get what you mean. Its kinda like whats called boxing the ears. You lose position doing that. Especially when you are up against yhe fence. That arm is needed to post to get up.
ya exactly. I've seen Conor use it to great effect in every one of he's fights and he has never been taken down due to it. He even hit with palm hell strikes to the body, the head, ears, everything. He mostly does this instead of turning over he's knuckes with the padding, i think it's actually quite clever, do you? If it doesn't lead to a takedown of course (which is hasn't for him so far). As your knuckles are like an inch higher than they normally would be due to all the wrapping, then add the 3 inches of padding on the gloves. There's literally just 1 or 2 wraps on the "Balls" of your palm (Like the ball of your foot) and once you hit with that it's basically your bones hitting them i presume harder than small short range punches.
To the guy saying Chael did it to Anderson, yah he did, it's very effecting. Like i said, you see people on the ground trying to to do like 1 inch punches with the knuckles and it doesn't seem to do to much as they can't generate enough power. But due to the bone's in your hand and wrist basicaly being exposed out of the gloves you can cause more direct pain and jarring due to being able to apply more force. Without having to lock your wrist while punching (Locking your wrist for a punch must reduce the strikes by a couple of inches to land if you get me, whereas with a palm heel strike, juse try on your self digging your pal heel into your ribs from a couple of inches onpadded or banging your temples and ears with them etc. I think it makes Conor even more impressive that he uses this unusual technique. I bet he learned it simply from someone doing it to him in a fight and thinking "F*ck that hurts more than turning the padded knuckles over and inches of range).

By the way thanks for all the input guys, really enjoying the discourse on my first ever post here! i'm brand new :)
Nice to meet you all!

It for sure has its place. But there are instances where a closed fist strike will do way more damage.

When swinging from the side with palm facing you opponent is the best use of this strike imo. Striaght shots unless real close to your opponent and basically to the chest would be effective as well. But close fist strikes should be used for conventional hooks and straights that are not straight of the line of the shoulder.

Ya se i started using them all the time as a guy hit me maybe by accident with one in the temple from very close range, no wind up and it literally rattled my head, i was kind dazed after it. Now i use it all the time, and i noticed Conor doing it. It was especially effective against Chad mendes. Also I'm so disappoint in Conor with he's body shots on Nate. Look at how he broke down Mendes. He kicked Mendes so many times in the stomach with he's toes pointing up with those front kicks that Mendes was pretty much Gasping at the end of the first round. I'm surprised Conor didn't use hardly any of those against Diaz, he totally didn't seem himself. Love Diaz tho lol, he's so funny

He didnt kick to the body due to the height of diaz. What he didnt want was to end up on the ground. A kick to nates body put conors leg to high and if caught by nate its an easy trip due to conor being off balance and nates length.

true. i didn't realize hw much Damage Conor did to Nate's leg. Did you see that locker room video after from one of hes teammates? there was like this massive 5 inch long lump on he's leg just below the knee and he was badly limping. And yeah about the midsection kicks.
Did you see that BRUTAL body shot i was talking about from conor a minute into the second? he faked a right and buckled Diaz with the body shot from thrown from the middle east lol. Nate is a tough SOB to take shots like that.
And in that massive kind L bend over the top left he caught nate with Straight on the chin that rocked him was amazing. God know's how he didn't drop from that, even if being caught of balance or being dazed

the palm strike was replaced by the stockton slap

also FYI Bas Rutten competed in Pancrase for most of his career, where close fisted strikes were illegal, that is why he threw palm strikes

Useful situationally. Inferior to a closed-fist strike in many scenarios in modern MMA (assuming you're properly gloved/wrapped).

Here's a decent article for you to read TS:

reading now bud thanks. i love the palm strikes now. I just feel (and have felt) that i can't get or they can't get enough power into the shot's at like inches of range when tied up or grappling with all the padding (Even the little padding from MMA gloves and the wraps) compared to the no wind up heel strikes. Sparring a friend of mine he told me to stop doing it because i was damageing he's ribs, i must have hurt something else as he was complaining of lower back pain after it aswell, and i got him in the solar plexus (Right and the center bottom of he's rib cage when i had him against the cage and pushing and he said he felt like vomitting) again no wind up just almost like pushing with my heel of the hand rally short and fast

Also as i said i got one either on purpose or by accident in the temple when i had a guy in my guard with figure 4 tie up on him with my legs (Wasn't going for submission from the back as my BJJ is shit atm) and it rocked my head. It musyt have been an accident as he only did it once. And i've used it as my primary close range tool apsrt from short elbows since and people complain about it alot. If you guys are fighters, try it out. It works best for me with literallt a couple of inches distance to hit from, especially if you're against the fence and have 1 underhook, every now and then hit them with the heel strikes in the temple, with the underhook also while you're in that position really quickly poush them out from you slightly with your left hand and hit the of the peck by the shoulder, and especially in the ribs at short range with your over arm. Obviously don't do it too much or you'll be caught off balance. I love it! Bare bone against bare muscle/skin and bone. It's my newest (at least) technique that people are whinging about lol. It seems to jar or rock the head especially compared to very short rang turned knucked. I don't know why. i think it's literally just the fact that it's your whole wrist and forarm and bone of the bottom of your thumb just bare slamming the temple and ear, like the bottom end of a stockton slap but from 6 inches or shorter.

Dont get me wrong conor did ok. But nate schooled him. And im happy about that.

It works well for you at those short distances because you do not have to waste the space/time curling your wrist to bring the knuckles to bear.

you really think so? it was a completely one sided fight literally until nate rocked Conor with that 2 punch Combo when Conor was stumbling around the place exhausted. the fight was literally 80% conor walking him down busting him up. Nate landed a few shots that conor absorbed well. Then conor got burned out, and the last 20% was just a prolonged end to the fight. I wouldn't really call getting savaged for 80% of the fight and winning with a nice few combo's and a choke schooling. Again not picking any fighter but the guy was 183lbs in the octagon, fighting a much smaller, shorter guy who was 167 in the octagon, and still managed to batter him most of the fight. Before Conor got rocked, things were looking pretty bad for Diaz, if Conor wasn't so gassed i think nate was in bad shape, he was lookingquite rocked near the combo that caught Conor?

yeah exactly bro thats what i mean. but i'm using it in clinches and on the ground in any position when i can get a hand free from many shortish ranges now. especially to the temple and body shots, straight to the sturnum and ribs seems to cause alot of complaints and make's people feel wheezie/sick

Do you fight yourself bro? if so try it next time you're sparring, you'll get avery disgruntled sparring partner lol. Especially the temple and chest shots. I find them not as effective in the stomach as i can never get an angle for them unless i'm literally in side control and we look like a plus sign, and even then i'm more free to get alot more wind up for a proper knuckle strike to that section. I forgot, also when i'm against the cage in a clinch i like to hit the thigh to. It's quite east as with an underhook my arm is naturally trying to wrist control with my free hand, and i try a few quick twist the elbow out and slam it into the thigh if i can't knee, then mix it up bring it up and hit to the jaw or temple.

I train and have competed. I fuck around with palm strikes here and there (mostly when someone is in my guard), but I prefer closed-fist attacks in most striking scenarios. But hey, I may mess around with em a bit more now just for the sake of experimentation.

Rewatch the fight if you can. The 1st rnd is alot closer than many remember. The 1st min of rnd 2 was prob conors best but it was not a landslide for conor until he was caught.

Chael slamming his hands into Anderson's ears repeatedly was devestating iirc
