Paddy Pimblett v Cowboy Cerrone

I could see Cowboy getting the W here. He’s going have massive experience advantage and is still probably the better striker of the two. I know it was close to 3 years ago but this reminds me of the Alex Hernandez fight and imo Alex was a much better fighter imo.

bottom line: I think Cowboy is going to win

Cerrone needs to retire he he loses to that haircut.

Paddy looks like he has a left high kick written all over him lol ….but at this stage he probably tko’s cowboy

Cowboy will be fighting Joe "Daddy" Stevenson in Khabib's new promotion after Paddy starches him.

EDIT: I just realized that Cowboy got choked out in a grappling bout a few days ago and is doing another grappling match on the 30th.
Certainly no shame being subbed by Craig Jones

I’m hoping for a vintage Cerrone. Paddy leaves his chin high and maybe Donald can take advantage of that.

If Donald didnt get absolutely ass_whooped by Morono Id pick him. On the other hand I might pick Alex vs Paddy. I thought Id feel better about Paddy if he beat Luigi but I really dont

Pimblett is stronger on the ground than at striking though, I don't get why everyone wants Cowboy to take him down.

His striking defence is pretty shite though, I think Cowboy's best chance is a kick to the head.

I can sort of understand the logic. Cowboy is super brittle and stiff on the feet these days, while Paddy has shown durability and power despite his total lack of defensive responsibility. I think he would get touched up, but get through with big punches and ultimately take Cerrone out if Cowboy kept it standing.

Conversely Donald is and always has been slept on by many for his BJJ and offensive wrestling skills. Donald has a wicked guard and is a lethal finisher on the mat. Recently he has talked about how late in his career he has rediscovered his love for Jiu-Jitsu and rolls a lot more often. He recently outwrestled and submitted RDA at Submission Underground (arguably twice) and a few days ago he had a Combat Jiu-Jitsu match with Craig Jones (he lost, of course, but that's to be expected against Craig Jones). He's also been doing some BJJ instruction for fighters.

I know Paddy is a primary grappler and very skilled in that arena himself, but he's been outgrappled in his career (admittedly by fairly skilled fighters in Soren Bak and Nad Narimani). He's also the smaller man (ex-Bantamweight versus occasional Welterweight who has outgrappled Welterweights).

In other words I think it has less to do with where Paddy is stronger and more to do with where Cowboy is less weak in his current state. Cerrone hasn't been convincingly manhandled by someone Paddy's size and experience level in a long, long time. Conversely he has a long history of outgrappling/submitting dudes (including some with legit grappling pedigrees that are bigger than Paddy), oftentimes off his back.

Great post, respect and a very fair take.. It's pretty mad that in 54 fights he's only lost by submission once, I hadn't taken that into account or a lot of what you've just written about.

Offensively though he has only 2 submission wins in his last 24 fights, against Brazilian Cowboy and Mike Perry, both pretty reckless lads like Paddy(prior to that way back in 2014 against Edson).. I have no doubts he could get a sub win, but Paddy looks strong at LW to me, a lot stronger than his 5ft10 frame would suggest in contrast to Cerrone's 6ft at least.

Pretty excited to see this now after thinking about it.

Also that's a really cool Avatar!

Washed or not I like cerrone to summon the strength to school this kid.luigi had him dead to rights and dropped the ball.cerrone will step on the gas and take him out.if paddy wins a star is born at the expense of cowboy and paddy has his biggest win to date.i picture this going very similar to cowboy vs hernandez

Pimblett looked like a complete amateur in his last fight. If Cerrone can't beat someone that bad, he should be forced to retire.

I hate this fight.

Give Cerrone a worty retirement fight - maybe Miller rematch or (even though they were teammates) Guida.

You never know, Cowboy did put up a great performance against Pettis. But I think at this point he has no power. Even if he lands on Paddy, Paddy is durable and puts on pressure
