Hot Take Paddy looked AWFUL and completely outclassed

There is a reason they tried to sneak him into the title picture. He doesn't have the skills to beat the best guys.

Control time does matter, especially when weighed with everything else. Justin was also landing strikes all through the control time.

Paddy didn't land either the more shots or the more damaging shots lol. He got outstruck 40 -38.

I think Arman, Charles, ilia, Benny, moicano, and BSD would all be able to outgrapple paddy.

Paddy could probably knock Benny out though lol and maybe win a battle of conditioning against old moicano. But in strict mma grappling, I think he is behind those guys
 
I didn't see the fight but honestly I expected more from him. He was supposed to be the new guard. I didn't think that he would lose to 38 yo Justin Gaethje.

the UFC and Dana have excelled in their ability to push characters and control their progress enough to raise their hype. Problem is since serious athletes started doing MMA their progress can't be controlled for very long before they are blocked and the dudes who do it just aren't very marketable. No one would even know who Khabib is without Conor.
 
Is anyone trashing him anywhere near the top 15 in the world at any skill they have ever learned?
 
JG fight alawys needs a special game plan. He is basically a glued fish or snake that stuck on you and bytes you the whole time. His style is possible to crack only if you either trianed with him or fought him.
 
Topuria probably begging Dana to let him fight Paddy after that. Easy guaranteed win by 1st rnd ko.

Also he was fighting quiet dirty. 2 eyepokes, 1 low blow and faking a lowblow when he was under pressure. The ref was not good..for the 2nd eyepoke he should have taken a point from Justin

Also paddy took quiet some damage after the 2nd eyepoke
 
He's in his thirties with an almost 15 years long career in fighting. What you see is what you get at this point, there were never spectacular improvments in his future.

Give the guy a break, he proved he can scrap in the UFC. That's more that you could say after the Gordon fight.
 
Paddy had NOTHING for Gaethje. He won just one round with the jab gameplan but nothing else.

And sadly he took a lifechange beating.
 
Paddy's striking needs a lot of work for sure, lets be fair he is very crafty and slick on the ground, he's really good with chokes. But he will need to improve his standup a lot if he wants to be a champ. The first thing he needs to do is not learn how to throw, but how to defend it, his chin is straight up in the air always, its so easy for guys to land flush when you do that, its a big NO NO. I can't believe his coaches haven't fixed that yet, its one of the first basic things you learn in boxing training, they will scream at you if you put your chin up in the air. Its not a hard thing to fix, I dunno why its not been fixed
 
I don't get the Paddy hate. UFC hyped him, not just Paddy himself. He Has nice personality, he's not Colby. 155 is very though division, he was never i'm a boring fight. If he won, everyone would say Gaethje was washed. Anyone who can give this kind of fight to Gaethje is elite. I don't think he's overrated. I haven't seen anyone hyping Paddy to be on the level of Ilia, Charles, Arman, but the haters were underrating him like he was Sage Northcutt tier.

About people shitting on his ground game? His ground game is good, his wrestling wasn't good enough to take Gaethje down and obviously this isn't 1993 where you pull guard. Most of the times Gaethje was on top was when Paddy was hurt, it wasn't like Paddy was in his element. Most of the times when Gaethje was on front headlock, he wasn't doing much, didn't try to advance position, some ground and pound but not damaging and control.
That was a winnable fight for Paddy. He gave us great show and still people shit on him

I would say his ability to survive and recover is next level as well.
 
His muscles looked big, but he looked like his brain wasn't workin well. Slow reaction time, sluggish and so on. He had no explosive moves at all. He looked better in other fights i've seen. This one was really bad.

Basically exactly this. UFC very clearly desperately want Paddy to be the next Conor and they pushed him hard and even got gifted the Jared Gordon "win" and the entire commentary team talked Pimblett up the whole fight it was disappointingly biased commentary and I'm VERY HAPPY GAETHJE WON!! (And I'm British...)
