Hot Take Paddy looked AWFUL and completely outclassed

Conditioning looked terrible. REAL bad. That's the worst I've ever seen his conditioning look. He looked slow. He still can't learn to keep his chin down. He needs a tennis ball under his chin. His striking was even sloppier than it's normal sloppiness (didn't even think that was even possible). Terrible fight IQ too. When it was apparent he couldn't match his standup, he should've went for more level changes but still chose to stand.
His striking was mixed

On the one hand, it was very sloppy at times, especially that overhand right, one of the worst ive ever seen.

But then hed have moments where he'd throw nice jabs, left hooks, even a straight right with good form when thrown in a combination.

He would have moments as well where he slipped / rolled and moved his head very well, very defensively responsible, then other moments where he'd be sloppy and let low hanging fruit punches get through.

Bit of a mixed bag of everything.

Overall, considering its his 2nd big fight at the highest level, it wasn't too bad though.

Standing 5 rounds with Gaethje and holding his own is impressive in itself. Especially since most expected him to have his success in the grappling.

If he continues improving, and is able to stabilize / tap into that more technical and defensively sound version of himself on a more consistent basis, he's still someone to watch as a future contender.

Wtf fight did you watch? He was striking just fine with Gaethje. It was even when they stood in the center.

Gaethje really just big brothered him and didn't respect the power Paddy had and I don't think Paddy expected that so he fought going backwards most the fight, except that 3rd round, which Justin took off.

On a side note, I just checked Paddy's age, and damn, he's already 31! I thought he was still in his mid-20s.

Not sure he'll be able to significantly improve at this point.

His conditioning looked fine. He got rocked numerous times and it was a grueling fight yet he was hanging in there trying to find a way until the final bell. He got his ass whooped tonight but he got his ass whooped by a bad mother fucker who had more left in the tank than everyone thought.

Paddy had chin against the fist contest, which he almost won.

Justin took so many calf kicks without checking.

Jistin was unable to use his kicks because of takedown threat.

Very happy Justin won.

Paddy is tough as shit and he had his moments throughout this fight but its not his fault the UFC fast tracked this dude into the position he is in now. The UFC trying so hard to find the next Conor so they can pimp them out of their money

Nah, he has ability, he's still pretty raw though. He leaves himself way too open for counters and his hands are low and chin not tucked, wide swings, turns his back too often, just needs to tighten things up. Both guys fought pretty sloppily, especially when compared to the Allen/Silva fight earlier in the card, so you can't just complain about Paddy when neither guy looked like a top five fighter in terms of skill.
The man is durable as hell and has a lot of grit, plus size for the division, just needs to tighten up that standup technique a good amount.

Guy is a bigger hype job than Sage Northcut, he punches with his wrists, cant fathom how the fuck hes ranked number 5 at lightweight, his biggest win was Chandler who's only win in the last 5 years was Tony Ferguson who left the UFC on an eight fight losing streak.

The UFC hype machine has become increasingly ridiculous

Never for the fucking life of me understood the hype of this guy. That defense is some of the worst I've ever seen.

Sherdog idiots once again fell for a hype job plant who's best wins are old men matched up specifically to make him look good.
I tried to tell them for months now <lol>

I normally chuckle at fighter X is overrated posts after a loss but if paddy doesn’t qualify then I don’t know who does.

Paddy is tough, but he took an ungodly amount of damage from one of the heaviest hitters in the division's history. I wonder if it will affect him in his next fights.

Kind of like Ortega after fighting Max or Tony after fighting Justin.

Something no one considers is that Paddy already has 27 pro fights, which is a lot of mileage. As a comparison, Justin has 32 fights. Paddy's only 31, but I wouldn't be surprised if the damage he took in this fight changes him just like the two fights you cited.
