P90X and Muay Thai training?

P90x seems to be the real deal. I looked into it recently and my buddy let me borrow his dvds, it is definitely a kick butt workout. Crossfit is another one that was recommended to me by friends and i've also done bas rutten workouts as well. i prefer workouts more relevant to our sport to incorporate my strength and conditioning training. I recently found a company named MMA Fitness and Training that does a 90 day workout with a nutrition plan as well. I'm looking into it right now but seems to be really good. i think the important thing is to continue to enhance and develop your workouts.

The P90X is not an MMA conditioning workout. It is the same tired thing bodybuilders have been doing for the last 50 years only packaged nicely. Save for the yoga, stretching, kenpo and plyo vid. There's an MMA conditioning program out there that takes your body through all 3 phases of training (endurance, strength and power) over the course of 90 days and is backed by science in it's methodology. There's nothing out there like this one. It's called the ESP-XC by MMA Fitness and Training.

Doesn`t this look odd?

I was in the same situation, I was doing muay thai and P90x for almost two months and then i stopped doing it.....one of the reasons was that I got bored and without the weights, I felt like the workouts wasn't pushing me enough....and I also felt like it hampered with my muay thai because they have legs and back/pylo (these two were the hardest one for me) which makes my leg sore and then I can't effectively put in 100% work for my muay thai...and then I was trying to juggle them around around the rest of the workouts and my muay thai....and i felt like it was getting to be a problem...so now I returned back to my weights and muay thai...I feel like now I have more time to focus on my strength, conditioning and muay thai...bcoz i don't have to put in that 6 days a week + muay thai 3 days a week.....

However, P90x was still good for a change.....it helped me increase my pullups reps for sure.....and i still plan on maybe doing pylo and yoga.....and every summer i plan on taking a month off weight training to do P90x, which will provide a much change in my workout routine...but ya like most of the guys said, its good for people who haven't done much before or who doesn't have a schedule like ours (who train martial arts) because they can put in the 6 days, get rest and not worry about other things....well there u have it...my 2 cents....

I've actually have the entire program (found it for free online) and its not just 'jumping around randomly.' It comes with 12 different 1 hour workouts, 5 of which are intense lifting workouts, plus cardio, plyo, kenpo x, (tae bo, lol) stretching, yoga, and a 15 minute ab workout. The nutrition program and training cycle are both very good. You keep the same routine for 3 weeks, do one week of cardio and stretching, then another 3 weeks with a different lifting routine.

I tried to follow the program as prescribed while keeping a full training schedule and it was too much for me, honestly. I was burning out when class time came around. If you want to give p90x a shot i would do the lifts on your off days and do the stretching, plyo, and cardio on the days that you train. I love the fact that it is done at home with basic equipment. LOTS of pushups and pullups. Oh, and dont bother with the kenpo x video, its corny as hell. Just get Bas' CD and do rounds on the heavy bag.

also skipped the Kenpo for Bas's routine...all in all, pretty good just to get in a basic workout mode

P90X has great excersises but doesnt give fighters what they need when they compete. Trust me, it's just for out of shape people who need a quick, great way to get back in shape. I'd recommend checking out Ross Enamait's books, Bas Ruttens tapes, and going to sandbag training. Also master your bodyweight by doing numerous bodyweight excersises not just bench pressing or curling like bodybuilders. When you workout like a bodybuilder you're just going to get muscle that would hold you down in a fight. Be practical in your workouts.

negative the p90x program will def help not hurt anything but yea horton is kinda out there
