Overrated Sherdog darlings

This mostly happens with "over the hill" fighters who had a great run in the past and whose fans are in denial, believing that they could still be world champions. Penn and Shogun come to mind as two prime examples.

The Holland and Khamzat hype trains are pretty big right now
Teenage ADHD-addled Sherbro's (like the rest of modern society) have a depressingly short attention-span, so of course guys who have fought some cans in *recent memory* are going to get all that hype. These types (fans) are easy $$$ for Dana and his corporate gang of advertisers, so they make a nice pair.

Romero, people count his losses as wins and blame his opponents for his more recent lacklustre performances.
We have a winner
This is probably the winner indeed, lol.

For the record, i think Romero is one of the most dangerous 185ers ever and if you've got him on your resume it's a hell of a name.
I do *suspect* he's not clean though, more than anything due to Whittaker's comments after their second fight.
(This is not an accusation, mods! I'm not saying that he's in fact on something!)

That being said, it's 100% true that his fans, many of who just want to hate on Izzy, always bring up how he "could/should have won" his last three fights, but fail to realize that it's just as true, that he never managed to convincingly best his opponent in his last three fights against Whittaker (II), Costa and Adesanya.
Comparing him to Adesanya in that regard, it's very clear that overall, Adesanya has been far more convincing in his last three fights, in which besides having a lacklustre and close fight against Romero, he managed to beat both Robert Whittaker and Paulo Costa in a manner that "The Soldier of god" didn't even remotely come close to.

For those who now like to point out that Izzy's tit is just as suspect for PED abuse as Romero's physical changes at the age of 40 that Whittaker has reported:
Wrong.
Getting worse gyno from weed/repeated mechanical impact/antibiotics is very plausible, especially for a person who's already had "puffy nips" which are basically the least severe form of gyno and despite what bro's are spewing all over the internet, very common.
What's fairly unplausible though, is that an olympian medalist whose physique despite the age of 40 is already better than that of most natural bodybuilders, while doing a sport that requires cardio as well, goes through physical changes that are so significant, that his opponent reports that he has literally felt like a different person and that all his non-facial injuries are from hitting him.
Robert Whittaker has also added, that he's leaving these changes down to "nothing but magic."

O'Malley has talent. The problem is while I could see Chimaev going back to Chechnya, killing a wild goat and eating the meat raw with the blood dripping down his body O'Malley would be ordering a plate of tofu and lentils in a restaurant in Los Angeles with sauce on the side. As guys say on here he is a beta cuck, no chance of being a champion. MMA is a man's game, he's a boy in tights with rainbow hair.
I see Chimaev with a goat but he's not killing it.

Andy Wang gets to much respect on this forum, yeah sure his grappling is godlike and he probably was the biggest warrior of his time.

Who is the most overrated sherdog bandwagons? I'm not sure if its the worst example, but it's most definitely overlooked. Sherdog thought Siyar was going to be the next welterweight king, yet he proved himself to be very mediocre at best. Even resident Muslim nuthugger @Ackmed doesn't want any part of him anymore

Fedor

O'Malley was on his way to being a darling. I mean, it's still to early and he can end up being great, but he turned out to be such an insufferable brat that I think most sherdoggers will watch him to see him lose.

Did you listen to Shale going on about him a couple of months ago? "Sugar Sean wins again" and all that? Lol.

He was all over the marketing as usual but this time it was something else.

Cain had people getting hyper aggressive on here if you said he wasnt the HW goat. Mcnuggets I understand some of his bandwagon, but some will defend him beating up old men. BJ back in the day, you couldnt say anything against.

Volkanovski. the most boring point fighter in the history of sport
beyond me how he still has fans lol

Definietly Islam:
  1. Never fights
  2. Pulls out over minor injuries
  3. Got knocked out cold by a bum
  4. Has never beat or fought anybody decent
Yet some people on this forum would still crawl through a mile of shit just to be able to sniff his sweaty jockstrap.

Are you still living in 2014? Spoiler: Conor went on to be a double champ and break numerous records so fully lived up to the hype and them some.

My pick would be Oliveria, his stock is very inflated right now for beating a big name but in reality a lot of the guys in the top 15 would have beaten Tony just as dominantly as age and damage has caught up with him.

<FookIsThatGuy>

When did this happen?
Before McGregor came into the picture...saying this just in case that's when you started following this sport.

But I do agree that there wasn't THAT MUCH hype about Siyar, but there were a few people who thought he would be the next big thing at 170, based on a brutal KO of Paul Thiago.

As far as this year is concerned, it was quite funny to see Shabazyan predictably get mauled by Brunson, despite so many nuthuggers thinking he was the second coming of Jesus. How Brunson was the underdog in that fight still remains a mystery to me to this day.

"Oh, he KO'd Brad Tavares with a huge head kick!"

Yeah well Brunson KO'd the living shit out of Lyoto Machida, a former champ, and fought all the toughest guys in the division.

Aaron Pico. Gets besmirched by bums repeatedly but still has people talking about how he's the second coming of Fedor because he was good at PE class in school.

I love Kevin Holland but I’m objective enough to recognize my boy is just an above average fighter... he ain’t gonna be champion but he’ll have tons of entertaining fights

it seems that way. He looks like a pretty good fighter on a run, but his win over Jacare was really eye opening. Especially his willingness to be on his back against one of the BJJMMA goats and just find a way to demolish him... it’s hard for me not to feel like he could be a champion in the near future.
