This is apples and oranges.
Newton was from a pre-industrial age and Tesla was in the midst of it.
The tools available for their interests were vastly different.

How can we compare "smartest"?

You are grinding my gears here, Peter.

But, push come to shove, I'm going with Tesla.

Newton had straight up intellect. Calculus bro! He worked literally from scratch on so much.

But, my mad-man Tesla. I find that the creativity is the key to grasping abstract ideas and putting them into the realm of sense (despite his madness...)

He used to visualise machines without needing to draw them or record details. Having the ability to do that is black magic, bro.
His intuition was beyond Newton's, despite Newton having that intellectual edge (we could argue this all day).

That kind of intuition, that "knowing" of certain things that exist and without having to write everything down, puts him more in the league of some kind of disturbing genius. I think that he would have found obscure and powerful answers in any science, in any generation.

Ferarri or Lambo? Hmmmmm.....

I would say it's tough to rate geniuses, especially at that extreme level, as they have different talents. I work with a lot of really smart people, but they are smart in different ways.

If I had to choose.... It's Newton, but that may only be because we don't know half of the crap that Tesla came up with.

Here's a fun fact. Who did the U.S. Government (FBI) send to get all of Tesla's work and deal with it? MIT Engineer, John Trump. Don's Uncle. No joke.... and kind of scary.

Fair argument indeed, but it's a fun poll nonetheless. : - )
