Edgar was our rocky.

Never been finished, fought to pure attrition against Maynard twice...Pretty much beat Bendo twice (imo), beat prime BJ Penn...And you're telling me he gets KOed by Ortega?

Ortega is a beast for sure..But Edgar is so much better than that.

I use to train at the Gracie academy long before Ortega even became a pro fighter. I still remember doing stadium bleacher runs with him and Rener at Torrance High School. At the time, he had just gotten his purple belt and was teaching frequently at the academy. He had some pankration ammies under his belt, but no way did I ever imagine he'd be a top FW fighter. I knew he had the potential, but it seemed like he was more focused on becoming an instructor like Rener/Ryron.

The Gracie academy had some up and coming fighters, some you'd expect to make it far in the game, yet not one of them have even come close to Ortega's success.

Whats my point? I'm happy for Ortega, Ive personally trained with him, but I'm just still shocked at Edgar losing so quick and devastatingly

I used to train with chocolate al when he had that look in his eyes.

It could get pretty awkward.

That upkick in Bendo I fight didn't KO him

I legit thought he was uncrackable

Still my boy doe

You can literally see DC's heartbreak seeing the KO. <2>

Every one will get cracked eventually.

Ortega made him levitate too.

20 pound weight advantage.. yeah ,, sooooo impressive...
ped/weight cutter
how does this guy have fans
probably all rumble fans when he was at 170

The Ortega train gets derailed when he faces Yair.......

Ortega is the new Rocky, his comeback fights were so awesome even watching the replays...

Rocky’s torch was passed that night

I said before the fight started that Father Time catches up with everybody. I also said I didn't think it would be that night though. But Frankie has been in some absolute wars over the course of his long career across two divisions. Former LW champ who actually defended his belt.

And he didn't even have to take this fight. Gave up a title shot. Not a lot of fighters like that anymore.

Yep, and Frankie somehow beat Father Time for a long, long time. He's spent more time in the UFC cage than any other fighter and is 36...which at FW is like being in your mid-40s in the heavier classes (think Couture, Hendo...and well, that's it).

I've trained at the Torrance academy as well (albeit when Rener & Ryron were kids) and I can tell you, this place is legendary, in terms of 'behind the scenes' fights (challenge matches), and fantastic teaching of hard-core "street" BJJ.

That said, Frankie himself has legit Jiu Jitsu and a very complete skill-set, so I was NOT expecting that fight to go down as it did.

Ortega is a Gracie Jiu-Jitsu blackbelt who has finally put the striking aspect together, and become very dangerous in his own right and I'm not just talking about his hands. He was winging kicks and elbows like a beast in this fight, on top of his boxing.

Was sad to see Edgar lose and not get his TS, as I am a fan of his.

But as he said, T-City represents the next generation of fighters.

He got rekt and curb stomped by a young up and coming fighter. People were asking about where the “new breed” fighters were a couple years ago, and Max and Ortega are examples of the “New Breed” taking over.
