Opponent immediately sitting down in competition

I just prefer old school BJJ, moves that works on the streets and in MMA. I'm just not a fan of this new modern hipster BJJ fancy shits we're seeing from this new generation. It looks pretty stupid.

its called evolution. i think it takes a really narrow mind to prefer that everything stay the same as it was 20 years ago, especially considering this new shit works really really well. if you took these new berimbolo guys back in time to 1994 theyd completely destroy the competition. think about that for a second.

to me, the fact that there are techniques we dont know about that have yet to come into fruition is really cool. the human body is a well of endless creative potential. i cant wait to see what kind of crazy shit the top guys do 20 years from now, regardless of how 'hipster' it looks.

Yeah, let's take them back 20 years and put them in a cage. Let's see if they can pull off what Royce Gracie could do

Wait, so basically you're telling everyone here, that this new modern hipster BJJ fancy bullshit will work in the street and in MMA? Yea, ain't gonna happen.

I can guarantee IF, and I mean IF.... IF the Miyaos, Mendes, Keenan, ever do MMA, their fancy modern hipster shit will get thrown out the window in the cage. It's a given.

No, it's not.

Ryan Hall won TUF basically because of his superior skills at "fancy modern hipster shit". Marcin Held is forging a solid career largely out of upside down leglock stuff. The others you listed are several orders of magnitude better than both Hall and Held (IMHO).

im not talking about a cage, im talking about pure jiu jitsu tournaments. it blows my mind when people cant differentiate between the two. and actually, if they were to get in the cage, they'd obviously change their strategy, but id be willing to bet berimbolos would work pretty damn well with enough practice. same with x guard. they just have to be adapted in the right way.

Okay, if you say so. I'll believe it when I see it.

We can all see what work and doesn't work in MMA or street fight. Old school basics works, it's higher percentage. All the fancy shits you see on the mat is NOT as high percentage as old school basic techniques. Let's just leave it at that.

Ryan Hall didn't really win TUF, LOL! And I think any top 10 fighters in his weight class can wrestle fuck him and ground and pound him silly for a TKO.

I also think slamming, suplexes, should be allowed. That'll teach the butt scooters to work on their takedowns and takedown defense.

To my knowledge, suplexes are allowed in sport BJJ.

More importantly, you didn't really address the underlying fact that there are successful fighters in modern MMA heavily using "modern" Jiu Jitsu. Now, I don't foresee anyone using berimbolo in MMA as their primary strategy of course (as much because of the absence of the gi as the presence of strikes) but to heedlessly decry innovation is pointless and will only hinder your development. PLENTY of "modern" leg entanglements work very well in MMA, (inside leg traingle, leg drag, 1LX, twister roll back take that is very similar to berimbolo, etc) and acting like because someone pulls guard as their primary BJJ tournament strategy that they must be wholly deficient at "real" Jiu-Jitsu is just silly.

Last i heard, IBJJF banned suplexes. I guess they don't want wrestlers to go in there and suplexing the fuck out of the butt scooters and give them concussions since butt scooters doesn't know how to fall correctly.

The only techniques i really dislike and would like to see banned are lapel/worm guard entanglements. Such bullshit, a huge disadvantage to the passer, and literally zero real world applicability. Fuck that noise. And penalise guard pulling by -1 advantage like in ADCC. Im all for most modern Jiu Jitsu techniques, but come on, we need more rodolfo/buchecha types in the sport. I personally wanna see more TD>Pass>Mount/Back>Sub, rather than this lapel/bolo/50/50 shit

are you saying we should ban a technique that makes your guard hard to pass, because it presents a challenge to the passer? please tell me you're not saying this. theres so much wrong with that i dont even know where to begin.

i feel its a technique that presents an unfair advantage to the guard player, they grab that lapel grip, feed it through the legs, hold on for dear life, and can pretty much stifle any action. It slows the game down immensely, and nobody wants to see that shit

How would allowing slams and suplexes fix guard pulling? If anything, it'll cause more people to pull rather than attempt to fuck around on the feet.

Watching two talented grapplers wrestle all shitty isn't enjoyable. I'd much rather someone pull and we can watch them do something they're good at

maybe the guy getting wormed should learn how to stop it then, since you know, thats what jiu jitsu is all about. or we could do it your way, and just ban it like a bunch of children cuz its too hard to deal with. yeah that will definitely send the sport in the right direction

whatever you say champ

Picking people up from the ground and slam the shit out of them. There's videos of that you can search for, and some of it has been posted here. And of course when the modern BJJ hipsters saw that, they'll be screaming shits like "That's not IBJJF legal!"

Watch how guard should be pulled @ 3:30 here:
