Hot topic over the last week or so has been USADA infringements by UFC fighters.
I believe there has been 3 in the last week - Frank Mir, Lyoto Machida and Viscardi Andrade.
I will say that I think as of today the USADA/WADA public perception is a little skewed. I hear many people saying that it's essentially bulletproof now and if someone is on something, they'll get caught. I think most of us know it's actually not bulletproof and when you see number of tests alongside a fighter's name reading 0 or 1 test, it's still not good enough!
I'm happy that people are getting caught, it shows the program is working.
If nobody was getting caught, sure we'd still have these cards and our favorite fighters wouldn't have tainted careers, but nothing would have really changed. How would we know USADA is even a good thing?
There is a saying, "Sometimes to make an omelette, you have to crack a few eggs", and I believe that's what happening.
Don't get me wrong, there is part of me that likes the UberReem's and the TRT Vitor's of the world.
Bigger, faster, stronger! but I'm too much of a hardcore fan of this great sport, legitimacy is everything.
Questions:
1. I for one am willing to have some cards fall through for the longevity of the sport. Are you?
2. So on the whole, what are our thoughts on USADA and are we happy that it seems to be working?
Wildcard Question:
* I also would love to know if you guys think that someone like a Jones, Cormier, McGregor, Ronda character was flagged, whether the UFC would have some way or would pursue an avenue to cover it up.
Possible, or ridiculous? You guys tell me?
