Hot topic over the last week or so has been USADA infringements by UFC fighters.

I believe there has been 3 in the last week - Frank Mir, Lyoto Machida and Viscardi Andrade.

I will say that I think as of today the USADA/WADA public perception is a little skewed. I hear many people saying that it's essentially bulletproof now and if someone is on something, they'll get caught. I think most of us know it's actually not bulletproof and when you see number of tests alongside a fighter's name reading 0 or 1 test, it's still not good enough!

I'm happy that people are getting caught, it shows the program is working.

If nobody was getting caught, sure we'd still have these cards and our favorite fighters wouldn't have tainted careers, but nothing would have really changed. How would we know USADA is even a good thing?

There is a saying, "Sometimes to make an omelette, you have to crack a few eggs", and I believe that's what happening.

Don't get me wrong, there is part of me that likes the UberReem's and the TRT Vitor's of the world.
Bigger, faster, stronger! but I'm too much of a hardcore fan of this great sport, legitimacy is everything.

Questions:

1. I for one am willing to have some cards fall through for the longevity of the sport. Are you?

2. So on the whole, what are our thoughts on USADA and are we happy that it seems to be working?

Wildcard Question:

* I also would love to know if you guys think that someone like a Jones, Cormier, McGregor, Ronda character was flagged, whether the UFC would have some way or would pursue an avenue to cover it up.

Possible, or ridiculous? You guys tell me?

I could see a cover up by the UFC, they did it with vitor for the jones fight.

USADA seems to be catching people which is huge, like how they handled the Romero situation.

Will love to see how they handle the machida situation.

Doping-WADA announces meldonium amnesty

The presence of less than one microgram of meldonium in doping samples in tests conducted on athletes before March 1 this year is acceptable, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) said on Wednesday.

No its not always as clear cut..

but in this case (Machida) it is.

The tests / positives they are coming up with are a joke.

Cannabis & DHEA

fucking LOL

Why would they hire USADA and then cover up results??

Wouldn't they just get rid of the random testing period?

So weird....

What was your opinion on the Romero situation, out of curiosity?

Just like you, I'm willing to accept great fights getting called off for the sake of sport's integrity. "Oh, but hey, don't be naïve, everyone's on steroids". That may be true. But USADA might be the first step to make it stop.

So yeah, I'm glad to see that it seems to be working. As for a big draw getting caught, it's really hard to tell. I don't doubt the UFC would be willing to cover it up, but I'm not sure about how far they would go to make it work.

Great thread.

If it's on the banned list it's on the banned list, it's as simple as that. Knowing what you are allowed to put in your body is part of your job as a professional athlete.

I think Cannabis is wrong, but I was also under the impression that if you get caught on Cannabis outside of competition, let's say a random test, you won't get banned, right?

What is DHEA, I'm unaware of it's nature.

Also, when Machida was flagged, was it a random test or one of the pre-fight tests?

I'm curious about that because Vitor flagged for crazy testosterone in a pre-fight test and they let it go on anyway. Interesting now if USADA just have you pulled from the card if they spot something in a pre-fight test.

I won't believe there are no cover up situations until a high profile fighter as you mentioned get's popped.

Who got popped for Cannabis?

Because the fighter would have had to smoke on Fight Night or smoke a lot longterm and a couple days prior to pop.

There's no out of competition cannabis test.

This. They made Bones fight a guy with higher test than Bane.

Machida isn't high profile?

Machida and Mir are both high profile in a sense but on there way out they aren't the huge stars the UFC can't afford to lose.

Whey isolate and creatine are next :D
